Anthony Joshua defended his World Cup titles against Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev who had to count several times.

The English heavyweight champion put all four of his World Cup belts on the line when he faced Pulev in front of 1,000 spectators at Wembley Arena on Saturday night Norwegian time.

The match was Joshua’s first after regaining his titles against Andy Ruiz about a year ago.

The 31-year-old had a good grip on eight-year-old Pulev and ultimately claimed a well-deserved and convincing victory.

Uppercut etter uppercut

But Pulev was tenacious and held out for nine rounds against the Englishman. Finally, the Bulgarian knocked out after being discounted in the ninth round. It was the fourth time that Pulev lowered the account.

Joshua lasted a series of uppercut battles during the match and became a major weapon against the Bulgarian.

For DAZN, Joshua tells him after the deal that he had been inspired by Mike Tyson’s own uppercuts.

– I am inspired by many of the greats, says Joshua and also points out Larry Holmes.

Fury neste?

Joshua, however, was not as eager to speak to reporters after the game, but seemed more concerned that those present had had a pleasant evening.

The Englishman was repeatedly asked if he now wants to meet the other heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury, but Joshua did not want to talk too much about the compatriot who holds the WBC title.

However, he says that he wants to have all the belts and that he knows anyone.

Promoter Eddie Hearn, on the other hand, makes no secret of the fact that they will be working towards the giant settlement.

I had to count four times

Joshua proved at least Saturday night that he is still serious in the ring.

The heavyweight champion entered the ring to music from the Rocky 4 soundtrack to the Survivor song “Burning Heart” in front of the 1000 spectators who had secured a ticket to the showdown that had limited seating due to covid restrictions. 19.

In the first two rounds, the two opponents felt ahead, but in the third round it really fell.

Pulev had to count twice in the round, but in an incredible way he managed to stay in the match.

The deal calmed down a bit in the following rounds, but Joshua still dominated the game.

In the ninth round, however, he stopped. First, Pulev took the curtain on another solid uppercut from Joshua. The Bulgarian got up again, but fell straight back on the first hit when the referee resumed the game.

This time Pulev didn’t get up and Joshua was able to cheer for victory.
