After being released on April 12, he admitted that he could have gone “both ways.” But he never thought he could die.
He says he received “liters” of oxygen and was frustrated that he was not improving, but the reality was serious for him when doctors discussed whether he should intubate and connect to a respirator.
“It was then that he started to get a little bit … started thinking about how to handle the presentation,” he said.
Praise the Doctors
Johnson, who returned to work Monday and had a son with fiancé Carrie Symonds on Wednesday, has repeatedly praised the staff at the NHS public hospital where he was admitted.
He said his son, Wilfred Lawrie Nicholas Johnson, is named after the two doctors Nick Price and Nick Hart who treated him.
Both are infectious disease specialists and respirators, and Symonds has made it clear that they saved his life.
Johnson has also paid tribute to the two nurses who cared for him, immigrants from New Zealand and Portugal, and to the public health system of the National Health Service.

Sun on Sunday writes that Johnson was emotionally affected when he talked about what was going on. He said he didn’t want to be serious at first and tried to keep working despite feeling “groggy.”
At first he did not want to be hospitalized, but the doctors insisted on his low oxygen level.
“When I look back, it was okay to be forced,” he says.
– It was a difficult moment, I can’t deny it. They had a strategy for dealing with “Stalin’s death scenario,” he says in an interview with The Sun newspaper.
