Petter Northug has admitted that he was driving too fast, at more than 200 kilometers per hour in Zone 80, when a police patrol stopped him on August 13 on the E6 in Gardermoen.
A small amount of cocaine was found in his home.
At a press conference on the case, Northug admitted that he is struggling with a serious substance abuse problem. The ski star has realized that he needs help dealing with the drug problem he is struggling with.
– Hear rumors
On Friday evening, Marit Bjørgen will be a guest on TV2’s Senkveld television show. There, Bjørgen tells what he thought when the Northug case was known in the media.
– I wasn’t very surprised. Rumors have been heard. Now I distance myself from what he has done, he says on the show.
But it emphasizes:
– I know Petter as a calm and sane boy from Mosvika. I hope you want to change your lifestyle a bit. It’s up to him, says Bjørgen in Senkveld.
Sponsor withdrew
The fact that Northug is once again in the spotlight of the police means that several backers are considering whether to continue the collaboration with the former ski star.
So far, only the Uno-X cycling team has announced that they will terminate their equipment contract with Petter Northug.
The Norwegian Ski Association, which also has a sponsorship agreement with the Northug brand, tells VG that they are in dialogue with Northug about a possible additional collaboration. Northug supplies sports goggles to support staff and has agreements with some athletes from the Norwegian Ski Federation, as well as the combined national team.
Northug has announced that he will be resigning from all future assignments.
