CHANDLER, ARIZONA (VG) Joe Biden has been named the winner in the state of Arizona by Fox News, but Trump supporters have a hard time believing it.
In Chandler, Arizona, VG Trump supporter Dave Kern meets just after conservative Fox News has named Joe Biden the winner.
Kern, despite the news, is still one hundred percent certain that Trump will win the election and shakes his head wryly.
– Biden must have won old Arizona. But I really don’t believe in these numbers. I think there is a lot of deception on the part of the Democrats, the man tells VG, adding: “Trump will win!”
As of 7:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, only Fox News has declared Biden the winner in the state. Then 80 percent of the vote is counted and Biden leads with 52.6 percent against Trump’s 46.1 percent.
Arizona has traditionally been a safe bet for Republicans. The Reds have won nine of the last ten presidential elections in this state. In 2016, Trump won the state by just over three percentage points.
But this year, it may seem like it has changed.
Opinion polls have long suggested that Donald Trump loses Arizona to Democratic challenger Joe Biden.
Right now the position looks like this in the overview updating DPA:
Allsang
Now that the president has lost support in the state, one of the possible explanations is that demographics are changing, in part because the proportion of Latin American voters has increased in recent years.
– I am very surprised and disappointed. She was absolutely certain that Arizona would go to Trump, Melanie Vanhoose tells VG after Biden of the Democrats was proclaimed the state winner.
Vanhoose explains the loss precisely with changes in demographics.
– Because there are so many people who have moved here from other states, the woman tells VG.
Vanhoose has always voted Republican and has appeared at the party’s vigil with her husband Kenny Dutro and son Ryan.
– Do you still think that Trump can win?asks VG.
“I really hope so!” Says the Arizona Vanhoose woman.
Cautious optimism among Democrats
On the Democrats’ election vigil in Phoenix, there is cautious optimism. If Joe Biden wins in Arizona, he will be the second Democratic presidential candidate to do so since 1952.
– I am very happy with all the work we have done here in Maricopa County, it has really paid off, says Amber Rivera, who is the leader of the local youth organization for the Democrats.
– At the national level, it seems that we will have to wait. But I’m optimistic, I still think Joe Biden has a chance to win, he says, referring to the unresolved results in the Rustbelt states, where the tally of many of the anticipated votes remains.
What the American people must do now is be patient and make sure every voice is spoken, Riviera believes.
– If Trump wins, it is important that we work together. We must unite our country, regardless of the outcome, the young woman tells VG.
– Allowed to be a patriot
A few hours before Fox’s announcement, VG speaks to Trump supporters in Chandler, when someone raises a very American flag. Suddenly everyone stands up and holds the flag in the air to the country song “We are free.”
– Trump has allowed us to be patriots again. I’ve never seen patriotism like this before, Manecke tells VG at Chandler.
The couple believe that Americans will lose both freedom of speech and religion if Trump has to resign as president.
VG talks to another woman who has put a shiny Trump pin on her chest. She has volunteered at the polls today and is confident that the president will win.
A victory for Biden is a scene of terror for the woman.
– Then I will be terribly sad, especially on behalf of my children. I feel like it’s about your future and your freedoms. I am afraid that the Democrats will lead the country in a socialist direction.
