North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has not been seen in public since March 11, and this has led to speculation that he could be seriously ill.
Now South Korea’s reunification minister Kim Yeon-chul says fear of the crown may be the real reason.
“Many brands, including celebrations and a banquet, have been canceled due to concerns about the virus,” the minister said at a hearing in the South Korean parliament, according to SCMP.
He claims it is no surprise, then, that Kim Jong-un did not attend the birthday of his grandfather and the country’s founder, Kim Il-sung, on April 15.
“The Crown’s measures in the country are strict,” said the minister, who is monitoring the situation in the neighboring north.
rumors
It is the first time since Kim Jong-un gained power in 2011, who did not attend this anniversary, and his absence has sparked many rumors.
Among other things, it was reported that he had a cardiac operation at a hospital in northern Pyongyang, and that the situation is critical. The South Korean authorities claim that this cannot be true.
Kim Jong-un was last seen on April 11, when he and the core of the Korean Labor Party took steps to prevent coronary infection in the population.
The images to document the meeting show that neither he nor any of the others present wore masks or kept at a greater distance.
Closed edges
What is interesting about the theory that Kim Jong-un is kept away from the public because of the crown is that it would have been relatively easy for the regime to publish some new photos of him, to avoid further speculation.
They do not have
North Korean authorities have long claimed that there were no cases of infection in the country.
Although the country was rapidly closing its borders when the corona eruption became known, observers believed that the infection had probably also reached North Korea. The border with China is not hermetically sealed.
In March, a government official should have lectured on the situation and then said that there are infections “in three parts of the country,” including Pyongyang, according to Newsweek.
confusion
It is still unknown where Kim Jong-un will be staying, if the rumors of serious illness or death are true, or if he is in good shape.
One of the first messages that came was that he underwent cardiac surgery in a hospital, which is intended for the Kim family. Now it turns out that there may be a confusion of names that has created this speculation.
The hospital is located in Hyangsan City, a forested area north of Pyongyang, but this is also the name of the villa that Kim uses at her resort in the coastal city of Wonsan, in the east of the country.
More and more signs are being reported that he is staying in Wonsan.
Ships that are generally in use have been observed when Kim is in the area, and the train she uses to travel must be parked in the area.
In Wonsan he has one of his prestigious projects, which is the development of a tourist area. This should have been completed in mid-April, but is still ongoing.
One of the many messages that Kim Jong-un must have sent while away from the public was a thank you to those who are building this tourist area.
However, he is not likely to write these messages himself, and therefore there is no evidence that these signs of life came from him.
