An entire world was shocked when supporters of former President Donald Trump attacked the Congress building in Washington DC in the United States on January 6 of this year.

Four people lost their lives in the attack and more than 50 policemen were injured.

A hearing was held on Tuesday on the attack on Congress.

One of those who was explained was the resigned head of the Congressional police unit, Steven Sund. This is the first time the resigned boss explains himself after the storm.

“A situation of war”

On the same day as the attack on Congress, the FBI wrote a report warning that extremists could cause “a war situation” in Washington DC.

During Tuesday’s hearing, Sund said that this report did not reach him prior to the attack and therefore they were not prepared for a possible attack.

He writes for a number of international media, including The Guardian.

During the hearing, Sund Trump supporters who attacked Congress described it as follows:

– They came prepared for war. They came with weapons, radio equipment and climbing equipment.

-It was something completely different from what I have seen in 30 years of service, he continued, according to the newspaper.

Sund said the FBI report only reached him several weeks after the attack. By then he was gone after the storm.

– The supporters did not behave like any other protester I have seen. No civilian police unit, and at least not the congressional police, is trained and equipped to resist a revolt with thousands of armed, violent and coordinated people who are willing to enter the building at any cost, Sund continued.

I have criticism

“Bored, grumpy and in a bad mood”

Police in riot gear stormed a demonstration on Friday, taking hundreds of protesters away by truck.

According to NTB, the resigned chief stated during the hearing that the lack of security is not due to poor planning, but to a poor flow of information between the different agencies.

However, the head of the FBI’s Washington office says information from the report was quickly shared with other law enforcement units, including the congressional police and the Washington police, NTB writes.

Following the attack, different police units in Washington DC blamed each other for the lack of security during the January 6 attack.

I still have scars

Police officer Carneysha Mendoza was also explained during Tuesday’s hearing.

During the attack, chemicals were thrown on his face and Mendoza says he still has scars on his face as a result.

To be investigated on September 11

– We could have been ten times more at work, and I still think the fight would have been just as devastating, he said, adding that January 6 is the worst day he has ever worked in his life.

Trump spoke

Before the deadly attack on Congress, President Donald Trump delivered a speech to thousands of supporters in Washington DC.

“We will never give up and we will never acknowledge the loss of the elections,” he said, among other things.

Trump also urged his supporters to march to the Capitol, where the election result would be officially approved.

The speech and the attack on Congress were some of the reasons why the former president was put on trial.

Trump was acquitted in the Supreme Court case against him, but he is the only president in US history to be tried twice.
