Tjalve’s sports manager was quick to notice what he describes as neatness against Amalie Iuel (26). The hurdler herself says she stays away from the comment fields.

NORWAY SPORTS COLLEGE (Nettavisen): During the National Championship in Bergen in September, Iuel refused to participate due to infection control rules.

The 26-year-old had participated in the Diamond League tournament in Rome just prior to NM and thus had to have a negative response to a Covid-19 test before she could compete.

Exposed to neatness

It was in the attempt (classification) in the 400 meters hurdles that they did not allow him to start, but Iuel was transferred directly to the final, which he won in a time that qualified for the Copa del Rey.

Since several of our best athletes had been in Rome, this was a practice that the organizer used for more than just Iuel.

Sports leader John Ertzgaard at Tjalve, Iuel’s club, was able to say that the 26-year-old had been exposed to what he described as neatness on various forums as a result of being carried directly to the final. Many thought that she had been discriminated against.

– There has been a lot of noise, we have not asked to stop running. We introduce ourselves, then the organizer decides and they say no, you can’t run. She has not asked for any benefits here, nor is it an advantage that she has been given more rest, she told NTB.

Iuel: – I don’t know what was written

Amalie Iuel herself was isolated after the refusal to start and admits to Nettavisen that she didn’t get as much of a fuss that it developed online.

– I never saw it, so I don’t know what was written, but I understood that there were some who had problems with me to go straight to the final, he tells Nettavisen.

She understands that someone might react to this, but she also points out that she didn’t actually have any great advantage by being carried directly into the final.

– I understand that people do not think it is fair, but I must say that I had run a few days ago and ran a lot faster than I was supposed to do as I was supposed to do in the experiments. That way, I don’t feel like I had a physical advantage by not posing in the heat trial, explains the hurdler.

– I was tired after the race in Rome and had traveled. For my part, I wanted to carry out the experiment. I tried to start but was denied entry when we got to the stadium.

Profiled athlete

The alumnus of the University of Southern California has in recent years become a household name in Sports Norway thanks to his achievements on the track.

The fact that he has worked closely in a team with world champion Karsten Warholm and his coach Leif Olav Alnes has also brought Iuel to the center of attention. Among other things, it is in most of the episodes of the NRK series “Karsten and Leif” that are now relevant.

When it became known on May 17 this year that she was in love with former mountaineer Aksel Lund Svindal, the hurdler really became a name on the lips of many people.

When many people know who you are, the chances of cyberbullying and nasty messages on social media often increase. Iuel is an active Instagram user and has an account open and accessible to everyone, so in theory anyone can get in touch.

In the past, athletic profiles like Isabelle Pedersen and Ezinne Okparaebo have been open about receiving unwanted inquiries on social media.

Okparaebo was open about the fact that she had to take a break from social media during the World Cup in 2015, while Pedersen has often responded when she has received unpleasant messages.

– keeps me away

However, Iuel chooses a slightly different approach.

– It can rob a lot of energy quickly if you become too obsessed with it. I understand that you want to speak up and put people in their place when they are ugly, but I have decided not to take that fight, Iuel tells Nettavisen.

– Because I think there are a lot of trolls online who are really just trying to create a reaction and they want me to react that way. So I think it’s better not to give them that satisfaction, says the 26-year-old.

Especially the comment field and what is written there is completely blocked.

– Actually, I try to stay pretty far from it. Special comment field. It’s a shame for everyone, I think. There’s always someone who wants to try and find something to mess with or hang out with, says the obstacle course.

– I don’t think reading those things will benefit you. That’s why I mostly try to stay away, really, says Iuel.
