Apple has invited the launch of the new iPhone models this year. Due to the corona pandemic, the company will only hold a virtual presentation, starting at 7 p.m. Norwegian time, on Tuesday evening.
The case is continually updated.
Confirm 5G compatibility
– The next generation is here. Today is a new era for the iPhone, said Apple CEO Tim Cook as he launched the introduction of the new iPhone models.
The reason is that they come with support for faster mobile browsing over 5G. The 5G rollout is underway around the world and will provide speeds 20 times faster than 4G.
This will be the iPhone 12
Apple is expected to release four versions of the iPhone 12. The first they showed was the standard version. It has the same 6.1-inch screen as the iPhone 11 and iPhone Xr before it.
It has a completely new, squarer design, and is thinner, smaller, lighter and has thinner bezels than the iPhone 11. It comes in black, white, green, red and blue.
The display is called Super Retina XDR. Perhaps most importantly, Apple is switching from LCD to OLED. The pixel density is 460 ppi, which is twice as many pixels as the iPhone 11. Perhaps most importantly, the glass is a new type of ceramic glass from Corning that should be more durable than any other screen on a smartphone. says Apple.
Inside is a new advanced A14 Bionic chip, which will give a powerful performance boost. When it comes to 5G, Apple has created a smart data mode that switches from 5G to 4G when you don’t need it to save battery life.
Like its predecessor, the iPhone 12 has a dual camera, a wide angle and an ultra wide angle. A larger aperture of f / 1.6 will provide an even better night mode, which will now work on all cameras, including wide-angle and selfie cameras.
IPhone 12 supports faster wireless charging of up to 15 watts (final). MagSafe for iPhone is a new magnet-based concept that allows you to place everything from cases to chargers on the back of iPhone 12.
And unsurprisingly, it won’t come with a power adapter or earplugs in the box.
Launch the mini-edition
Apple is also releasing a smaller version of the iPhone 12. The iPhone 12 mini has exactly the same features as the regular version, except for a smaller 5.4-inch screen.
It will cost less, $ 699, compared to $ 799 for the standard edition. We must go back to Norwegian prices.
iPhone 12 Pro
Like last year, we get two Pro versions of the iPhone 12. They have received the same design overhaul as the regular versions, but they come in a stainless steel frame instead of aluminum. The colors are also different: silver, graphite, gold and blue (new!).
The form factor is roughly identical to last year’s models, but the iPhone 12 Pro has a 6.1-inch screen, while the 12 Pro Max has a 6.7-inch screen. That makes it the largest iPhone model of all time.
The Pro models still have a triple camera system on the back, with wide, ultra-wide, and telephoto. Apple has made a number of improvements here, including better optical zoom, from 2x to 4x and 5x respectively on Pro and Pro Max. In other words, the larger version is a wetter notch.
For photography enthusiasts, Apple has also released its own RAW format called Apple ProRAW.
On the video front, the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max can shoot in 10-bit HDR.
New smart speaker
Apple kicked off the night by releasing something completely different from the iPhone, namely a smaller version of its smart speaker, HomePod.
The HomePod mini has a smaller and rounder design than the original. It is equipped with the so-called U1 chip that lets you know when your iPhone is close, and you can hold the phone to the speaker and transfer music playback.
Siri is the heart of the Homepod mini and it will also support various music services such as Pandora, TuneIn, and Amazon. You will recognize different voices in the home and provide personal responses. With an “intercom” feature, you can send messages to other Apple speakers or products in the home
You should also be able to control your various HomeKit-based smart home products directly from the speaker.
It remains to be seen if the Homepod mini will make it to Norway. The regular version of the HomePod is not yet for sale in this country, following its launch in the US in February 2018.
The price will be $ 99, slightly more than NOK. It will come in black or white.
Perhaps it is related to the fact that the speaker is based on voice control via Siri, which at the time took a long time to be available in the Norwegian version on the iPhone.
