After a few rounds of rumors, Apple may officially introduce the company’s first headphones with active noise reduction. The name is AirPods Max.
– AirPods are the world’s most popular headphones, and customers love the simple setup, incredible sound quality, and iconic design. With AirPods Max, we deliver the magical AirPods experience in a closed-ear headphone design with high fidelity sound, “says Greg Joswiak, Apple’s global marketing manager, in a press release.
Test: a little revolution
The new headphones combine acoustic sound, Apple’s H1 chip, advanced software, and powerful digital sound technology to deliver what Apple describes as an innovative listening experience.
The hoop is made of stainless steel, the hoods consist of memory foam pillows, and the frame and head pillow are knitted.
The elements themselves are 40 millimeters and, according to Apple, will deliver rich, deep bass, precise mids, and pure, crisp highs.
Additionally, AirPods Max are equipped with Apple’s H1 chip in each earbud, ensuring a fast and stable connection with devices.
Apple also highlights the following features:
- Auto switch allows users to move sound between iPhone, iPad and Mac. When playing music on their Mac, users can easily answer a call on their iPhone and AirPods Max switches automatically.
- Audio Sharing lets you share an audio stream between two sets of AirPods on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Apple TV 4K. Just hold the AirPods Max close to the device and connect with a single tap.
- Siri makes it possible to play music, answer calls, control volume, get directions, and much more. Siri can also read incoming messages with Announce Messages with Siri.
They also have features like adaptive equalizer and spatial sound known from AirPods plugs. In addition, Apple has implemented a function of the Apple Watch, the digital crown, which you turn on to adjust the volume, but also pause the sound, change songs and answer / hang up calls.
Can be ordered now
According to Apple, AirPods Max has 20 hours of playtime with high-fidelity sound, voice and video playback with active noise reduction, and activated ambient sound.
Advanced headphones are also priced at a premium. AirPods Max costs NOK 6,990 and comes in space gray, silver, sky blue, green and pink. They can be ordered starting today and will be available in stores on December 15.
Included in the box is a soft fabric Smart Case, which in the picture doesn’t exactly look very compact. When you put the AirPods Max earbuds in this case, they automatically go into power saving mode to conserve battery power.
Despite the loud sound, here Apple has to be overtaken by the Danish Beoplay H95 by almost 9000 kroner.
