Liverpool-Chelsea 0-1
Jürgen Klopp was brought down by Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea.
Thus, Liverpool’s streak of fear with losses in a row has been extended to five, the longest in the club’s history.
Defeat also means they lose ground to the all-important fourth place. They have Chelsea four points ahead.
– It’s a hard blow. It is not over yet. But when you lose so many games, you don’t deserve to go to the Champions League, Klopp tells Sky Sports.
During the lost games at home, they have only scored one goal. It was a penalty. The last time they won on their own turf was on December 16.
Several have attributed the injury problems to the defense of Liverpool’s weak form. Against Chelsea, he voted neither forward nor backward for Klopp’s men.
Only in the 85th minute did he notice an end to goal.
Klopp believes the backhand goal was due to a simple mistake on defense. Offensively, he thinks it was the decisive pass that brought them down.
– When we have the ball, we have to create more chances. There were too many situations in which everything went very well until the last pass. At crucial moments, we must prepare and show our quality. We don’t do it often enough. It’s clear, Klopp says.
The Liverpool manager defends that Mohamed Salah was removed after just over an hour of play.
– It was just a matter of having healthy legs. It’s not that frequent, but it seemed like “Mo” struggled a bit. He has played many games. You’re right, I could have taken Bobby (Firmino) or Sadio (Mané) from me, but at that moment it seemed like “Mo” was the one who struggled the most, he thinks.
Thomas Tuchel fully praises his players after the victory. He believes they played against offense and discipline on defense.
“It was a well deserved victory, a great achievement and a great result,” the Chelsea manager told Sky Sports.
He was rescued by the VAR
After an intense opening, where especially the guests had looked dangerous when they fought back, most of the people in Chelsea camp thought that Timo Werner had sent them in the lead. Then it was played for about half an hour.
However, the VAR bus concluded that the German was on the wrong side of the offside line, a decision made by the smallest possible margin.
Just before the break, it was time for Mason Mount. The 22-year-old easily passed Fabinho on his way to the field. He then shoved the ball into the corner, removable for Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson.
– A magnificent goal, said TV 2 expert commentator Petter Myhre.
Call to punishment
After the break, Liverpool called for a penalty. Roberto Firmino hit the ball directly into N’Golo Kanté’s hand from close range. The Frenchman had his hand in an unnatural position, but Judge Martin Atkinson concluded that sanctioning was not enough.
The Merseyside Reds continued to fight. Chelsea was the team that created the most chances and, at the same time, defended well.
