Ole Gunnar Solskjær (47) has finally got the left back he wanted. Brazilian Alex Telles (27) leaves Porto in favor of Manchester United.
This was confirmed on Monday, the last day of the transfer window. Several, including the well-informed Fabrizio Romano, announced a deal Sunday.
The transfer is confirmed the day after Manchester United’s humiliating 1-6 loss to Tottenham:
Long negotiations
The 27-year-old has been linked with Manchester United for much of the summer and, the day before the transfer window closes, he was finally ready. The reason the deal was slow to materialize must have been Porto’s unwillingness to let the left-back make a cheap sale despite his contract with the club expiring next summer.
For exactly the same reason, Manchester United shouldn’t have been willing to pay too much for a player that they could potentially get for free next year.
The parties reportedly agreed to a transfer fee of just over NOK 150 million.
Telles will be the third left back in Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s Manchester United squad, and will battle Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams for a spot in the starting lineup.
Ring fox also on the way
The left-back, who in addition to Porto has been in Grêmio, Galatasaray and Inter, will be Solskjær’s second signing in this window. Donny van de Beek has previously been hired from Ajax.
A third signing is also expected on “Deadline Day.” Several report that Uruguayan top scorer Edinson Cavani is also ready for Manchester United, and that this transfer is also confirmed before the window closes.
He may be 33, but he knows where the goal is:
The star forward has been unemployed since his contract with PSG expired this summer. Cavani joins Manchester United’s offensive line-up, and after the national team break he can get his first minutes in the red suit, since Anthony Martial saw the red card against Tottenham and thus lost several games.
