NOK 83 billion was set aside for the development of the corona vaccine at a donor conference on Monday. Norway contributes more than NOK 2 billion.
The target before the conference began was precisely € 7.5 billion, equivalent to around NOK 85 billion. When the conference ended, the goal was almost reached.
“This was a powerful show of global solidarity,” said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, head of the World Health Organization, after the conference.
In addition to the development of the covid-19 vaccine, the money will also go to production and distribution to combat the pandemic.

The virtual conference on Monday morning was chaired by Prime Minister Erna Solberg, among others. On behalf of Norway, Solberg was also able to announce Norway’s contribution of around NOK 2.1 billion to vaccine development.
In addition to this sum, Norway will allocate $ 1 billion, around NOK 10 billion, to the Gavi vaccine alliance in the next ten years.
More than 50 countries attended the conference. Among the contributing countries were France and Germany with just over half a billion euros each.
In addition to countries, several non-state actors, such as the Gavi and Cepi vaccine alliances, and the Melinda and Bill Gates foundation.
At the same time, both Erna Solberg and the other heads of state recalled the importance of the vaccine being available and distributed fairly.

“None of us can accept living in a world where some are protected and others are not,” WHO chief Ghebreyesus said after the conference.
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who returned to his job after being hospitalized with a covid infection 19, emphasized the importance of cooperation in fighting the pandemic.
– It is humanity against the virus. Together we will win, Johnson said.
