47.08 is the new record at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin. It was the third fastest race of his career and naturally led Warholm to a magnificent victory.

– I think it was a very good race and one of the best moments I have had in my entire life. It’s starting to get really, really good so I’m really happy today and it’s been great to race here again, Warholm tells NRK.

– It’s a new ghost age. It’s close to the world record again, but it won’t work this afternoon, claims NRK commentator Jann Post.

– Very proud

Karsten Warholm is the only one in history to have run under 47 blanks twice in the 400m hurdles. Kevin Young, Abderrahman Samba and Rai Benjamin have done it once each.

But Warholm admits that he realizes the pressure to be the fastest of all.

– It’s a very special situation to be in. Needless to say, it is a very, very high world record. We should be proud to be able to talk about a world record. Of course you feel the pressure, but I also like it a bit.

– Are you disappointed that you didn’t achieve this?

– I was a little disappointed in Ostrava. But today I am very happy. It is a very good moment and I am very proud of it. Of course you always want to run faster, but we have to take advantage of what we achieved, and today we have the third best time I have ever run, he says.

Towards the season of times

Karsten Warholm had done the exercise three times this season before the race in Berlin.

So you’re in the process of putting together a unique series of good times. In fact, it could be the best season for a hurdler in history, measured in the top five times for a season.

Warholm even holds this record from last year.

So the series was: 46.92 – 47.12 – 47.26 – 47.33 – 47.42.

This you have now: 46.87 – 47.08 – 47.10 – 47.62 – X.

– The body is very tired

By the way, Warholm is the only one in the world this year that has had fewer than 49 blanks. In other words, he is in a class of his own right now.

Already on Thursday, Warholm returns to running as planned, then at the Olympic Stadium in Rome. But now he realizes the way.

– I think it will be difficult, but I will try. I have competed so much that my body is very tired, and of course you also have to take that into account. Then we will see when we get to Rome what it will be like. But if I start, I’ll try to give it my all, he tells NRK.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen, Filip Ingebrigtsen, Hedda Hynne and Amalie Iuel will also compete in the Diamond League tournament broadcast by NRK in Rome.
