He has said no to Sweden several times. Now, super butter Perry Olsson (64) had to say yes, for several reasons.
There were problems and a lot of control when the Swede was hired in Norway in a hurry in 2003. Then-Norwegian lubrication manager Terje Smevold had no idea before Perry Olsson was hired.
When the butter veteran now leaves Norway’s cross country sports 17 years after contributing to an incredible medal catch at the World Cup and Olympics, he has just received congratulations and thanks for the effort.
– It was a little loud at first. The hiring process was a little quick. But that was my own initiative. It was I who called Norway and asked if they had a job for me, says Olsson, who was once called a lonely country in Sweden:
The noise was quickly forgotten, because the suffocation of Sweden would prove worth gold. With the primary responsibility for the skis of Marit Bjørgen and Petter Northug, he helped the two Norwegian profiles win a medal. Looking back, Olsson remembers the best:
– What’s most memorable is Marit’s first Olympic medal in Vancouver in 2010. She had fought long before the championship, so she got there and took three golds. With Petter there was a lot of control in the championship, where it was not our way, so he returned and took the Olympic gold five miles away. It was a great event, says Olsson, who also cites Jens Are Svartedal’s World Cup gold race in Sapporo (2007) and Ingvild Flugstad Østberg’s joint victory at the World Cup last year, as highlights.

Perry, who lubricates gold, destroys Norway: he has accepted yes to Sweden
Now it is the Swedes who will receive the golden help from the smotherer.
– It was a difficult choice. Actually, Perry Olsson tells VG.
– I have been in Norway for a long time and have enjoyed it incredibly well. Now I have a good agreement with Sweden, which also gives me the opportunity to follow two of my children who practice biathlon and cross-country skiing. Due to the crown crisis, there will probably be fewer trips and then I will be more at home.
The 64-year-old now has an agreement that extends for one year, but can be extended for another year. It also meant a part of the job change.

Johaug’s trainer scoffed at the Swedish strength training: – I’ve hardly ever seen the man
– I plan to work a few more years and maybe create something of my own as a pensioner. So it is an advantage to be active in Sweden before me. By doing so, I get a better platform, Olsson says, and he admits he’s better known in Norway than in Sweden after his 17 years working for Norwegian cross-country skiers.
– How many times have Swedes really tried to take you home?
– There were some questions last year, so it was a serious investigation after the Vancouver Olympics. I said not so many times that now I had to say yes, Olsson laughs.
In a few days he will be under the new lubrication manager for the Swedish cross country team, Petter Myhlback (43).
The first task is to pass the ski slip to Swedish athletes.
