Not everyone has a chance to give the Swedish king’s birthday: a BMW of the extremely exclusive type.

King Carl Gustaf turned 74 on April 30. He should have spent it at Stenhammar Castle outside of Flen, where he is in quarantine with Queen Silvia (76).

But if there was a lack of celebration as a result of the crown crisis, the birthday boy should have looked further for the gift for him.

The King has paid SEK 1.7 million for a BMW M8 Competition Coupé.

The Bytbil.com website was the first to report on the car purchase, which Aftonbladet and several other media have since withdrawn. The car joins the Swedish King’s pre-solid luxury car collection. Among other things, according to the Swedish DAM, it has a Shelby Mustang, an AC Cobra, a Ferrari and a Porsche in its possession.

For some Swedes, the new acquisition comes with a treat. The king of criticism for falling into such a crude investment at a time when large parts of the country and the world are in crisis due to the coronavirus.

Well-known host Gunnar Rehlin (71) writes sarcastically poorly hidden on Twitter:

«Crisis. Companies fail. People are losing their jobs. Famine threatens several countries. And the king buys a car for 1.7 million. A true role model

Other comments on Twitter read:

“Filthy as some toys”, “King Carl XVI Gustaf turned 74 and gave himself to a BMW for $ 1.7 million in taxes”, “It is true that it receives criticism” and “It’s hard to be on top, new toys.”

Not only do eyebrows rise above the high sum, but the king must also tolerate pepper for not thinking about the environment, like here:

Chief Information Officer Margareta Thorgren tells Aftonbladet that she has no comment on the purchase of the King’s private car.

The Express could announce Sunday that the King, Queen, and Princess Birgitta took a car to test the new smile, which has a top speed of more than 300 km per hour.

You remember? The Swedish king drove at 160 km per hour

The king is defended by Jonas Frycklund, chief economist at the Svensk Näringsliv interest organization. He believes that if he sees buying a car in a broader context, then Carl Gustaf helps secure jobs.

– After the crisis, if you want companies and factories to supply goods and services, then it is important that we continue to consume, he tells DAM.

The king spoke to the people before Easter:

Trade cooperation: discount codes
