The two players are said to have been at a party on Friday night with other people, when in reality they were supposed to be quarantined.
The club encouraged both to report to the police, and Stabæk confirms that they have. The quarantine violation is said to have resulted in a fine of NOK 20,000 each.
– We are very sorry for what has happened and we would like it to be undone. We are sorry, especially for the risk of infection to which we have exposed others. We are prepared to accept whatever punishment may come, say the players in a joint statement on the Stabæk website.
You were notified of the quarantine violation
Stabæk CEO Jon Tunold also confirms to NRK that two players have violated quarantine rules. It also confirms that the players were asked to report to the authorities and that they have done so.
– How did you know about this?
– I received an inquiry today from someone who wanted to notify us that two of the players had violated quarantine regulations. We really appreciate hearing. It is not acceptable with a violation, says Tunold.
– Both have undergone a negative corona test, but you have nothing to say. They should have been quarantined. We have been very clear about it. So they have violated the internal rules of the government and ours.
The whistleblower tells NRK that Stabæk expressed a clear wish that the person in question not tip the media. When Tunold is asked to confirm this, he responds as follows:
I thanked him for notifying me, and I wondered what purpose would come out with that now, but we had wanted to come out with it anyway. I asked him what he would achieve if he went to the media and if we could do it together. But we didn’t want to cover the case.
– Our guidelines hang in the closet
Tunold says the municipality sanctions players for violations of quarantine provisions, but the next step is to sanction players internally.
– We as a club are now discussing internally what consequences it will have, considering that they have broken the internal routines and change the protocol that we follow.
– As a club, have you been clear about external communication to the players about what rules apply and how serious it is?
– Yes, we have been very clear on this. Not more than a couple of weeks ago we had a review with our doctor, he says and lists the measures that the club has taken to inform the players:
– We have also posted all the guidelines in the dressing room, where it says that it is not allowed to go to cafes, visit people, etc. This applies regardless of whether they are quarantined or not. They have been living in quarantine for a year.
Extensive testing
On Monday, Stabæk stated that seven team A players had tested positive for the coronavirus, after extensive testing over the weekend.

A total of 43 people in the club have been tested. More than 30 tests had a negative response, while on Monday night they were still waiting for some test results. Stabæk hasn’t had team A crown cases before.
– I think this is a moment that we can face, because there are still a few weeks left for the start of the series. And we still don’t know if the series will start on May 1, club doctor Arne Røde told NRK on Monday.
Former Stabæk player Moussa Njie, who has trained with the team lately, was diagnosed with coronavirus on Thursday. In retrospect, an infection has been discovered in six other players. Njie is not one of the two players mentioned who broke the quarantine.
