The first failed jump spoiled Granerud’s golden dream

With eleven World Cup victories this season, Halvor Egner Granerud entered the World Cup as the clear favorite.

But the 24-year-old failed in the first round on the normal hill on Saturday and thus wasted his golden opportunities.

Poor conditions, 99 meters and a troublesome landing only remained in 16th place, 10.4 points behind leader Piotr Zyla. Therefore, it became a very difficult task for the supreme leader of the World Cup in the final round.

103 meters and three times 18.5, according to the judges, were much better shots, and the Asker boy jumped well on the results list. With four jump shots to go, Granerud continued to lead, and once again it was possible to dream of a medal.

Still he finished in bitter fourth place.

Piotr Zyla won against Karl Geiger and Anze Lanisek.

Revensjesugen Granerud

– I’m a bit disappointed, but the worst disappointment was really after the first jump. I took it off now. It was an honorable result in the end.

Norwegian triple: Gyda (18) did what her cousin Johaug did and became historical

– It didn’t feel so good. He was probably too eager. It ended up being a bit too short and a bit too ugly, disappointed Granerud tells TV 2 about the fatal jump in the first round.

– If I had done the work today, I would have had a chance to win a medal and win. I think I’ll rotate it myself, says the 24-year-old confirming that he has also felt some pressure after the ghost season.

– I’ve felt the nerves. There has been some shaking and nervousness in the body. In fact, it has been a bit delicious. It’s something I’ve been missing a bit lately. I’ve been very quiet all winter so it was nice to feel a little nervous. But it was quiet at the top.

Now he promises a vengeful version of himself for the rest of the championship.

– I’d like to take a few more jumps and show who is the best, says the Asker boy.

– And who is the best this season?

– That’s me.

The jump leader will not blame conditions.

Jumping coach Clas Brede Bråthen would not blame circumstances for not winning a Norwegian medal on Saturday.

– Halvor makes technical mistakes and is punished a little harder than if the conditions had been better, but we must concentrate on performance and what we can do, says the manager from jump to TV 2.

– I think if Halvor had made as good a jump as he did in the second half, he would have won this championship quite clearly.

Bråthen will not paint black after fourth place.

– Above all, I feel the disappointment experienced by the athlete himself. I’ve been with you too long to think that this is a crisis.

Robert Johansson finished in sixth place after 100 and 101 meters, while Daniel Andre Tande was number 9 after 101 and 98 meters and Marius Lindvik was number 14.
