Only Klæbo was better in the trial WC
On Sunday, he was in a relatively tough sprint session on the tracks of the cross-country stadium that he loves so much, to prepare for the World Cup sprint in classic style on Thursday. On Monday, he took it easy on the small network of trails around the Norwegian Ski Association hotel.

This prompted NRK expert Astrid Uhrenholdt Jacobsen to question Golberg’s place on a Norwegian World Cup sprint team. He did the same thing again a few weeks later, after the Falun dress rehearsal in late January.

Northug finished with the gold in the World Cup in Falun six years ago.
– Now I’m definitely not like Petter. But I had a good education last year. To say that I have to compose myself to be among five people in the World Cup sprint seems very difficult, Golberg repeats.
Klæbo attracted attention
At the last press conference before the World Cup sprint, there were few questions for both Golberg and Håvard Solås Taugbøl. Most were addressed to Johannes Høsflot Klæbo, Emil Iversen and Erik Valnes.
It was surprising, among other things, that Klæbo in an interview with TV 2 declared that he was not the favorite during the World Cup sprint. The Trøndelag man repeated the message when he met with the media on Tuesday.
– There are also three others here who can participate and fight. I don’t see myself as a favorite than others, says Klæbo.

– I feel better
NRK expert Fredrik Aukland thinks Golberg went unnoticed, when after all he is what he thinks is a favorite.
– I haven’t had a great sprint season, admits the main character himself.
– But I feel that I am better than the results I have shown. So I have been able to prepare for this race for a few weeks. And I know that I have put the job I believe in for an important ski career. So I know that I am among the best. So it’s okay to hit a bit from below.

Sprint national team coach Arild Monsen says he is calm about criticism of the student. He adds that he has given Golberg confidence because he has great faith in him.

– But how do you experience the discussion about your candidacy for the World Cup sprint?
– You should always have discussions about all the places. The last race is the one that is best remembered, whether they are thinking of sitting in the studio or elsewhere. It is also natural. But I try to get a bit more long-term perspective on evaluating the corridors, says Monsen.
– Last year much less thought
After a hectic January, where he admitted to being tired and no splashing on his legs after four race weekends in a row, Golberg has finally dropped his shoulders. He was pleased with the responses the corps gave during the national team pre-campaign in Sjusjøen the last two weeks.
He still explains how it can happen that a national team rider gets tired of being away from home for a month, when at the end of the day the rest of the season has been characterized by little competition and a lot of training at home:
– There is much to consider. At the same time, last year, there was much less thought about being a skier. That’s my opinion.
– During the Norgescup in Lygna it was very cold, we had a miserable facility, we had to sit in the car between the heats. It is just one day for many. That’s the total, says Golberg.
