While fit alpine skiers get hundreds of thousands of crowns in prizes, Jesper Saltvik Pedersen (21) got a cheese when he won the Veysonnaz World Cup race at Switzerland.

The world senator shared the story on Instagram. He presented it to shed light on the difference between the healthy and the disabled in sport.

– There is a big difference when the winner in the last slalom race for healthy women won NOK 600,000, while I get a cheese when I win, says Saltvik Pedersen.

Although the five-kilogram raclette cheese tastes good, it doesn’t pay your bills.

– Now I am testing a new variant to shed light on this prize difference and I want to sell the cheese to the highest bidder, it was among what he wrote in the Instagram post that you can see here:

There are currently no major bidders in place:

– I have received a couple of offers and the highest is a couple of hundred crowns, says Saltvik Pedersen to VG.

You experience that the economy is tight and that it is not possible to invest more money after your career:

– Now we live from hand to mouth, and I have to study next door to have something else when I publish.

Sporting director Claus Ryste says the ski association has tried to come up with a better solution for disabled mountaineers, without success:

– They run the World Cup with the IPC and not with the FIS as other mountaineers do, so it will be a bit more difficult, but we have faced the IPC in which we have to make it more sustainable for the runners.

The para-alpine WC was supposed to run in Lillehammer / Hafjell in February, but has been moved to 2022 due to the pandemic. The world championship is the first joint alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, biathlon and snowboarding championship.

– We have tried to take responsibility for organizing the World Cup in Lillehammer / Hafjell, but since it is under different federations, it is organized differently than the World Cup, says Ryste.

Ola Keul, responsible for the WC event in Lillehammer, says they are very interested in leading by example:

– There have been no cash prizes at the World Cup or the World Cup before, and our aim is for it to be at the Lillehammer World Cup. This is because we believe that parade athletes should have the same performance opportunities as all other athletes.

– Here are unique achievements that Jesper (Saltvik Pedersen journal. Note) and the others represent, so it is our goal that we achieve it.

He says they failed to set a specific amount before the championship was postponed until 2022, but both had and still believe that the winners will be rewarded with money at the World Cup.
