– We have to choose between closing completely or selling cutlets with onion. We also have food service, but we are closing the restaurant and bar here now, says former Fisheries Minister, now naked owner, Per Sandberg to Børsen.
In 2019, it emerged that former FRP politician and cohabiting partner Bahareh Letnes moved to Halden, where they opened the Grand Bar nightclub in May last year.
They now feel compelled to close the doors, after Prime Minister Erna Solberg introduced a nationwide ban on alcoholic beverages on Sunday, as one of several aggravating measures, to control the crown’s situation.
– The authorities allow us to remain open, but should we sit there and scratch ourselves? Sandberg asks rhetorically.
He says that many in the nightlife industry parody it when authorities enforce a complete stoppage of drinking, but at the same time allow them to stay open.

Collective punishment
According to Sandberg, trust in politicians has now been tested.
– Even the pub in the ocean gap, which has not seen the snout of the crown, is affected by this. It is a collective punishment. Respect for politicians will decrease after this.
Sandberg emphasizes that he believes the Grand Bar survives the crown. He is concerned about the three or four guards on duty who are not offered work due to the measures.
– I know that many others are much worse off than us. But they closed us down for two and a half months and we lost a lot. We have not yet dared to mount accounts, to see what we have lost.

Speak for everyone
Sandberg believes that the risk of infection in nightclubs is exaggerated.
– When I have traveled I have seen how much the nightlife industry has contributed to creating security. Nor is there anyone who has made it easier for people to have a sanctuary. It is a paradox that these scenarios are closing. Although it may be a bit risky, I will allow myself to speak for everyone. [i utelivsbransjen].
– What do you say to those who believe that alcohol causes people to minimize infection control and stick within 1 meter?
– If you fear that alcohol will cause you, you must provide proof of this.
Instead of completely stopping to drink, Sandberg proposes serving alcohol until 9pm.
Long-term consequences
Sandberg reacted, like some others, to the absence of the trade and industry minister and the finance minister at Sunday’s press conference when the measures were presented.

– The consequences of the measures and restrictions will be worse than the crown itself. For companies, and especially small and medium-sized companies, of which the nightlife industry is composed. I don’t think one sees the scope of the huge consequences this has for the business community in the long term.
In addition to the ban on alcoholic beverages, the government also introduced several new national measures that will be of great importance to Norwegian business and industry:
- All shopping centers and stores must introduce numerical restrictions so that it is possible to maintain their distance and have access control. Over the next few days, the government will consider whether to restrict the number of restrictions and access control.
- Home office for anyone who has the opportunity to do so.
