Eight municipalities with a “strong request” to their inhabitants.
Eight municipalities of Trøndelag make a clear appeal to its inhabitants:
– Use a home office if you can and avoid crossing city limits to shop or meet people.
The call comes from the municipalities of Trondheim, Stjørdal, Orkland, Skaun, Melhus, Midtre Gauldal, Malvik and Indre Fosen.
From now until the end of January, there is a “strong request to avoid crossing municipal boundaries.”
– We have a regional council where the eight municipalities of the region are represented. This decision, on which there was full agreement, was made on New Year’s Eve. We will have another meeting this afternoon, Skaun Mayor Gunn Iversen Stokke (Sp) tells Nettavisen on Monday.
– Common labor market
The Trondheim region has just over 300,000 inhabitants. Trondheim has had to deal with a large spread of the infection after the Christmas and New Years weekend. 17 new cases of infection were detected on Sunday. On Wednesday, the number of new contagion cases reached 83. Now Trondheim and neighboring municipalities are thus making a joint front against the pandemic and will limit travel between municipalities until January 2021.

– The Trondheim region is a large common labor market. In our municipality, we can have 3,000 inhabitants who commute to Trondheim daily to go to school or work. Now we say that if you can have a home office, then choose it. If not, try to avoid rush hour. Also, we ask people to buy locally. In my municipality there are small grocery stores, and many go to neighboring municipalities to buy groceries. Now we come with a strong call for people not to cross the neighboring border, says the mayor of Skaun, adding that the decision is being carried out with understanding.

This is the call for the eight municipalities:
- Extensive home office use during the period. When the home office can be used for the benefit of traveling across the municipal border, the home office must be clearly used.
- That the population does not go beyond the municipal limits to carry out commercial, social or cultural activities that are not strictly necessary.
- That organized combat activities that involve close contact across municipal boundaries cease.
- In those cases where you still have to cross municipal boundaries, we recommend avoiding rush hour public transport and using a blindfold if you still have to travel by public transport.
- That the recommendations of each municipality should be followed to limit the number of close contacts.
- That the regulations and councils of the municipality in which you are staying must be followed (consult the municipality’s website if you have questions).
- The municipalities are confident that neighbors, businessmen, sports and cultural life will seek to address the request as far as possible and in the wisest possible way. If we want to be successful in reducing the infection situation that is now intensifying in our region and calling the groups at risk, the degree of compliance of the population is of the utmost importance.
