GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN / OSLO (VG) Halvor Egner Granerud (24) broke the hill record. But he was only number two in the standings for the New Years jump race. He dropped the impact and missed 55,000 kroner.
Slovenian Anze Lanisek beat him by 0.5 points. World Cup leader Egner Granerud was upset when he spoke to VG afterwards. The consolation prize was not found. Winner takes all in jumping sport qualifications.
– Annoying, yes! There is a lot of prize money (5000 euros), but it may indicate that I have made too much money this winter when I do not bother to leave it, says Halvor Egner Granerud.

He adds that he thought it was a new record on the hill, longer than Swiss jumping icon Simon Ammann (four Olympic golds) and Marius Lindvik (last year’s winner), who stand 143.5 meters from the famous hill.
– I was almost completely sure that I jumped beyond the hill record, so I wanted to “save” myself and avoid too much stress on the body, says Egner Granerud.

He adds that he could have landed on the jam side “a little better”, and perhaps tricked the judges into getting better style notes than a 16.5 triple count.
– It should probably land a little better, he says.
And he quickly adds, even though the big check went to Lanisek, who was very happy with the day at Olympiabakken where Friday (first day of New Years) is the most prestigious jumping race of the season.
The Asker sweater is without a doubt the favorite. He did three excellent pops (including training jumps). He says some minor technical adjustments had to be made after fourth place in the Oberstdorf race, which was the inaugural competition at Hoppuka.

Stöckl’s email changed everything for the jumping kite
– I made some small adjustments because I was about to slip a bit technically after Oberstdorf. But now I took a few steps back again and hopefully I will stay inside to make it good enough for the New Years jump race, says Halvor Egner Granerud.
P.S! All the Norwegians, except the sick Lindvik, are ready for the race on Friday. Johann Forfang (10th place), Robert Johansson (13th place), Daniel-André Tande (40) and Sander Vossan Eriksen (49).
