For the second day in a row, there is a record number of infections recorded in the capital of Trøndelag. On Wednesday, 79 people were registered infected. These are numbers from Tuesday’s tests.
On Thursday, New Years Eve, the number of corona infections rises to 83.
16 of them have an unknown source of infection. Eight people are infected abroad. The rest are infected by known close contacts.
The infection occurs mainly in private contexts, depending on the municipality. All age groups are affected.
Trondheim may end up in risk group four
The presidency in Trondheim met Thursday morning for an extraordinary meeting of the presidency.
– The situation is very serious. More serious than at any other time, City Manager Morten Wolden said at the meeting.
If the infection trend continues, Trondheim may end up in risk group four in two to three days, on a scale of one to five. Health and wellness director Helge Garåsen is concerned.
He warns that there may soon be significantly tighter measures.
– If we do not achieve a drastic change, which we are still at the high number where we are now, it is necessary to adopt significantly stricter measures soon.
Does not close schools and kindergartens
Since August, there have been few cases of infection among Trondheim primary school students. Kindergartens and elementary schools are now at a yellow level.
This does not mean closure, but rather that students meet in small groups and that contact between groups is very limited. In relation to this, it is relevant to strengthen the personnel in some schools.
Some stages in some schools will probably have to be homeschooled at the beginning of the year.

The township and county council have yet to comment on what will happen to the upper secondary schools when the holidays are over.
The Municipality of Trondheim encourages all who work to have a home office in the future.
Soon, 25,000 students will arrive in the city
The student city of Trondheim is preparing to host around 25,000 students for the spring semester of 2021.
Around 900 of them come from abroad, from all corners of the world. These must be in quarantine during the first period of their study stay in the city.
– We are close to foreign students to provide them with the appropriate information and help them to be housed in quarantine hotels. NTNU funds quarantined hotels, says Marit Reitan, vice chancellor for education at NTNU.
In the spring semester of 2021, infection control rules mean that approximately 90 percent of scheduled instruction will take place physically on campus. In January, half of this scheduled teaching will be done digitally. This means that half of the planned teaching will take place on campus, so that students can gradually return.
NTNU continues to support this decision, which was made before the new infection flourished in Trondheim.
– We remain steadfast on this until the Trondheim municipality possibly gives us an order or request to think differently, says Reitan.
The NTNU rector decided Thursday morning that as many employees as they can should work from home. Physical attendance on campus should be reduced to absolutely necessary activities.
New Years party canceled
The municipality has canceled the New Year’s celebration in Trondheim. The fireworks at the Kristiansten fortress will be nothing. There was a long way to go, City Manager Wolden previously said.
Also, people have to leave the New Year’s party.
There has been an order for bandages in Trondheim for several weeks. Also, meeting with more than 10 people outside your home per week is prohibited.
Strict rules for sports until February 1
The municipal director asks the sport of Trondheim to sharpen the practice in the municipal facilities as a result of the contagion situation. The guidelines apply until February 1.
- It is not allowed to hold indoor competitions for athletes over 12 years of age in town halls. The municipality asks the owners of private rooms to follow the request.
- There is no access to grassroots sports for adults over 20 years old in town halls.
- The municipal director strongly urges all athletes not to leave the municipality.
- National competitions can be held at the elite level, but then according to the strict guidelines of the various special unions.
- Children and young people can still participate in their defined training group, in addition to having 10 social contacts per week.
