Henrik Kristoffersen took “one of his most emotional victories” after a series of setbacks. It was a Norwegian double when Sebastian Foss Solevåg secured his third career podium place.

Published:

– It’s great to be on the podium with Sebastian. For me, it was a roller coaster day. What I wanted most was to go home after the first round, but the good people around me know what buttons to push. The last three weeks have been a bit tougher than normal, Kristoffersen told reporters after the victory.

prior to has It has been several tougher races for Henrik Kristoffersen. Three of the last four races ended in a recession and were left out of the top ten for the “Rælingen splint”, and after the first round of the slalom race at Madonna di Campiglio he dropped completely to 12th place, 1 second and 25 hundredths behind compatriot Solevåg.

– No, I have run three bad races and there are many who have had much more adversity than me. Expectations are high and then it gets disappointing. This is probably one of the most emotional victories in that regard, Kristoffersen tells VG.

He says he started doubting himself after the weak runs.

– You always start to wonder if you are doing things right. The first step in solving a problem is realizing that you have a problem. There is no point in feeling sorry for yourself, it doesn’t help. The father has said it since he was five years old, and he will probably continue to joke, says Kristoffersen.

Solevåg vs. Kristoffersen

Henrik Kristoffersen finished in twelfth place after the first round of the slalom race at Madonna di Campiglio, but drove masterfully in the second and took a clear lead. He held it for a long time and then runner after runner followed him, until he took the podium. The giant Alexis Pinturault was left without a chance, Clement Noel the same.

In the end, only Sebastian Foss Solevåg could threaten Kristoffersen’s victory. Foss Solevåg led by four tenths after the first half and was 1.25 ahead of Kristoffersen.

But Kristoffersen’s second race was unbeatable and Solevåg finally took second place, thirty-three hundredths behind his compatriot.

Solevåg has two podium places from earlier in his career: third place in the St. Moritz slalom in 2016 and the same place in the same discipline in Zagreb the year before. Four years since the last podium, he is back.

– It was time for jaggu! It has been hard work for a long time, and he tried to be patient, Solevåg tells VG, adding that it was “like training” when he was at the top and he knew it was precisely Kristoffersen who he had to beat in order to win.

Tangled tomba

Kristoffersen claimed his 22nd World Cup victory of his career, his 18th in alpine skiing, and for the first time since January 28 in Schladming, he was back on the podium. This was her third victory at Madonna, and that’s how she touched a certain Alberto Tomba.

Italian Alex Vinatzer was in third place.

For the rest of Norwegians, things did not go perfectly.

Atle Lie McGrath, who this weekend took a sensational second place in the giant slalom at Alta Badia, came out. Jonathan Nordbotten also left.

Lucas Braathen failed to qualify for the final round.

Correction: The first edition of this article said that Solevåg was at the top of the podium. This is not true, and it was removed on Tuesday 22.12 at 21.48.
