FOLKETEATERET (VG) Ulrikke Brandstorp will play Sophie in the hit musical “Mamma Mia!” With that come tears, joy and nervousness: – Absolutely one of the most important things of my career, he says.
Earlier this year, it was announced that Folketeateret will present the hit musical “Mamma Mia!”, And that the search for singers and actors was underway.
On Friday, two of the roles were finally announced: Karoline Krüger will play the iconic role of Donna, and Kåre Conradi will play one of Sophie’s potential parents.
It is now also clear that Ulrikke Brandstorp has been cast in the lead role when one of the world’s most famous musicals performs in Oslo in 2021.
– Æææ. It’s almost like I don’t believe it or dare to say it out loud. It feels completely unreal, and for me this is definitely one of the most important things in my career.
VG meets her at the Folketeateret, where she will be on stage as Sophie in eight months.
– He’s so sick my name should be on that poster. I get completely dumb when we talk about it. It’s absolutely fantastic, she says.
She started to cry
The 25-year-old is used to standing on stage. Among other things, he has participated in “Idol” and “Star Wars”, and won the Melodi Grand Prix 2020. He also recently escaped with victory in the NRK hit “Maskorama”.
It was the same day it was announced that Eurovision had been canceled that Brandstorp got the good news about the role.
– I cried for Bogstadveien, and probably everyone thought I was crying for Eurovision, but they were tears of joy, he says and adds:
– It was perhaps the strangest casting process of all.
She was one of 15 who went from first audition to audition at the theater on Friday, March 13. But on Thursday, March 12, the entire country closed due to the corona pandemic.
– I was informed that Eurovision was canceled before it was announced, and the same day they called me, I had to do the last audition on video.
It was a day full of emotions.
– I filmed a little, I also cried a little. Then I took another recording, I also escaped to breathe and cry some more, he laughs.

Ulrikke «Trollet» Brandstorp won «Maskorama»
– It looks like a movie
Getting the part was never natural.
– It’s completely surreal. But I really think I needed it, it has meant a lot this year.
Because when the country closed, Brandstorp, like many others, struggled to keep up and get things going when the coronavirus took away income.
But that he has managed to keep up, there is no doubt:
– If someone in January had told me that first you win the Grand Prix, then there will be a voting chaos, you travel to Europe and suddenly you have to go home due to a virus, then Eurovision is canceled, you get the main role in «¡¡ Mamma Mia! Before rolling in the mud at Kompani Lauritzen, make a Christmas album, before ending the whole year being a Troll. Well, it feels like a movie.
Push the body to the extreme
She does not hide the fact that 2020 has been demanding.
– They are long days and you take your body to the limit. But I love it. If you don’t love him, you won’t be able to. So I depend on having nice people around me, you can never do it alone, he says.
Who has been for you
– From the beginning it has been mom and dad, and then my manager Christoffer came on the scene. On top of that, I have my best friend in reserve.
She is proud to have dared to go her own way, and dare to be a “potato.”
– After Star Wars, there were many people who said “who is Ulrikke really?”. But I love doing many different things, it makes me happy.
– My chin falls completely
Brandstorp found the joy of performing in a musical on “The Sound of Music” earlier this year, and now he can’t wait with “Mamma Mia!”
– I really want to start and will practice my butt.
How are your nerves?
– I am nervous about how it will be received, but I have faith in the whole team here.
The rest of the cast of the musical, which opens on August 26, is currently a secret.
– But my chin fell off completely when they told me I’d be on stage with those people there, he says.

Ulrikke Brandstorp: newly in love at Christmas
Will seize the throne
In connection with a VG interview in November, Brandstorp said that his big hairy goal was to one day take the Oslo Spektrum throne from Kurt Nilsen.
Came friday the news that next year’s Christmas concerts will be Nilsen’s last.
– WHAT! No, my God, I’m in a hurry now. I thought it would continue for another seven years.
Brandstorp says Nilsen is a Christmas legend and admires what he has accomplished.
– It would have been a disease to build something like that myself, but if there is something I can accomplish so quickly, I’m not sure. No, but now I have to pick up some phones and go to the study, he laughs.
But before the two Christmas concerts, New Years song releases and “Mamma Mia!”, A Christmas vacation awaits you at the cabin.
– I’ll have fun in the mountains with the guy and the family. Let’s go skiing and eat well. And maybe I should start training a little against “Mamma Mia”. Fortunately I got some training in “Maskorama” with so little oxygen on that Troll.
