2020 is a year few will forget. But for the Jæren superstar, the last 12 months have been at least a very, very rare sporting adventure.

– It is long!

Here’s what a happy Erling Braut Haaland (20) says after being told he’s running away with the Nettavisen award for 2020 “Sports Name of the Year”. Watch the video interview with the winner on top of the case!

– Will take you to new heights in 2021

This is an award given to the person in Norway who has excelled in sport to the highest positive degree during the last year.

– I’ve received an award in the same way before, and it’s great to win another award, says Haaland in this exclusive interview with Nettavisen.

– How have you been this year?

– It has been a very interesting year. It has gone fast, and of course slowly in some periods when the crown came, but it has been a good year and I have developed well. I made a perfect club choice and came to a club that took good care of me. They have shown me what lives in me, it has been a good year, but I am ready to take it to great heights next year. This is a free motivation for you to include it in 2021, Haaland says.

– I’m looking forward to this

The 20-year-old has played mostly for empty stands in 2020. Now he’s waiting for the crown to drop off the roof and the “yellow wall” to fill again.

– I’m really looking forward to it, I must be honest. It will be great when it’s safe enough and the stands fill up again. I’m looking forward to it, he says.

The last time he won a copy of the Nettavisen award was when he was named Young Player of the Year in the Elite Series in 2018.

Since then, his career has gained momentum. And then we are sober. In record time, the great Norwegian striker has gone from being a relatively under-described magazine internationally to becoming one of the hottest forwards in the world.

There is hardly a single club in the world that would have refused if it were available.

Adventure season

2020 has been the only long adventure for young Jærbu.

He has had a total impact on the international stage for Dortmund, and has had a total impact on the Norwegian national team.

– There were many strong candidates to win the award as the sports name of the year, but no one could live up to what Haaland achieved in 2020. It has been almost incredible. In addition, he, with his strong personality both on and off the pitch, has become a profile that Norway will greatly enjoy for years to come. We can only congratulate him on a well-deserved award, says Nettavisen sports editor Egil Sande.

Haaland’s 2020 statistics speak for themselves:

He has scored a total of 33 goals in 32 games for Borussia Dortmund in 2020 following the transfer from Red Bull Salzburg in January.

In the most generous club tournament in the world, the Champions League, this season he has scored six goals in four games.

For the Norwegian national team, he has also scored six goals in four Nations League games for Norway in 2020.

– Could have been much better

But he himself is still not completely satisfied.

– They are good statistics, but the best thing is that it could have been much better. I have missed many opportunities, says Haaland in the interview with Nettavisen.

So speaks a winner.

Haaland joins the ranks of great sports personalities who have previously won the same award.

Mats Zuccarello, Ada Hegerberg, Karsten Warholm, Marit Bjørgen and Ole Gunnar Solskjær are the previous winners.

The award is chosen by Nettavisen sports writing. The winner will receive an engraved award, presented by Magnor Glassverk.
