The Norwegian biathletes completely dominated the Austrian Hochfilzen.
Sturla Holm Lægreid took home his second World Cup winner and ran another phenomenal race when he won the sprint biathlon at Hochfilzen on Thursday.
The 23-year-old from Bærum shot full house both standing and standing, winning against Johannes Dale and Johannes Thingnes Bø, who took Norwegian’s triple on the podium, while Vetle Sjåstad Christiansen was fourth.
– I’m completely speechless. It worked great on the trail and I shot like a god. So I’m happy, Lægreid told NRK.
Dale also delivered flawlessly on the stand, while Thingnes Bø fired two booms. However, last year’s World Cup winner did very well at the Austrian Hochfilzen track.
With a time of 23.09.9, Holm Lægreid was 7.9 seconds ahead of Dale at the finish and 19.9 seconds ahead of Thingnes Bø.
Ola Lunde, NRK’s cross-country expert, is very impressed with the effort of the Norwegian team, who finished with four Norwegians on top.
– It’s almost inconceivable. It is absolutely amazing what is delivered here. I hardly thought it was possible to achieve such a result in today’s biathlon, with the tough endurance it is. I thought it would be difficult to win today, but this is a lot of fun to watch, Lunde commented on NRK.
Holm Lægreid scored his first World Cup victory at Finnish Kontiolahti in late November and confirmed on Thursday that he is also expected for the rest of the season.
Norwegian male athletes have won five of the seven World Cup races this season. Thingnes Bø keeps the yellow leader’s jersey.
