The rapper pleaded guilty to possession of a gun and could face a hefty prison sentence.
He now faces up to ten years in prison because he has already been convicted, tax authorities told CNN.
The 38-year-old pleaded guilty during a hearing Friday in St. Petersburg, Florida.
“Judge, I plead guilty,” said Dwayne Michael Carter, whose real name is NBC.
Carter has said the gun was a Father’s Day gift.
The loaded gun was found on a private plane on Christmas Eve last year, after he told FBI agents himself that the gun was in one of his bags.
The FBI acted on the basis of a clue that there were weapons and marijuana on board the plane.

– The accusation comes because he had already been previously convicted and therefore is not allowed to possess a weapon, says his lawyer Howard Srebnick, who has emphasized that the rapper did not use the weapon.
The sentence will take place on January 28 of next year.
The rapper pleaded guilty to possession of a weapon in 2009 after being arrested outside the Beacon Theater in New York in 2007 after finding a .40 caliber pistol on his tour bus.
