On Thursday, David Beasley, director of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), issued a strong warning.
Humanity is on the brink of starvation.
The corona pandemic has led to 40 percent more people now in need of humanitarian aid. Just over 270 million people are now at risk of starvation.
Fear of the famine pandemic
Beasley emphasizes that at least 30 million people at risk of starvation depend on aid to survive.

“If we cannot meet their needs, it will lead to a famine pandemic that could be worse than COVID,” Beasley said.
The WFP chief had previously warned that famine “knocks on a dozen doors” around the world and that next year will likely be the worst year of humanitarian crisis in 75 years.
Beasley believes that we are faced with one of the most ironic moments in modern history.
On the one hand, after a century of massive advances in eliminating extreme poverty, today millions of our neighbors are on the brink of starvation. On the other hand, there are 400 trillion dollars in wealth in our world today. And we only need $ 5 billion to save 30 million lives from famine.
Nobel Peace Prize from the World Food Program
He won the peace prize
The World Food Program helps countries struggling with famine and natural disasters, and also runs various development projects. WFP helps more than 86 million people in 83 countries annually.
In October, the organization received the Nobel Peace Prize for its work.
– I think it’s the first time in my life that I have no words. It was so shocking and surprising, Beasley told the AP news agency after the award ceremony.
