A child admitted to St. Olav Hospital with life-threatening internal injuries. Police are investigating the case as a possible incident of violence.
Police were notified of the case from Trondheim hospital after the boy was admitted on Monday, December 7.
– It is important for me to make it clear that we are in the early stages of the investigation. The police do not rule out that this injury may have a medical cause. Now a series of investigations and interrogations are underway; that’s what the investigation is about at the moment, police lawyer Silje Noem in the Trøndelag police district tells VG.
He claims that Kripos is actively contributing to the research.
Reasonable reason to suspect
Two caregivers have been charged with possible violence against the child, a police press release said. They will be presented for safekeeping on Thursday.
Police lawyer Noem says the police do not want to comment on what kind of relationship it is. At the same time, he claims that the evidence base means that there are good reasons to be suspicious of these people.
– But I don’t want to get into this specifically, says the police lawyer Noem.
– The police take all cases of possible violence against children very seriously. We give the case high priority. We are in an initial phase and working with various hypotheses, both that there may be medical reasons and damage inflicted, he explains.
No one wants to say where in the county the minor and the accused belong. At the same time, he admits that the case obviously belongs to the former Nord-Trøndelag, as the defendants appear at the Steinkjer-based Inntrøndelag district court.
– Does not understand
According to Trønder-Avisa, it is about a man and a woman accused in the case.
– Yesterday they interrogated her for several hours. The case is a very great burden for the accused. She does not understand the complaint that comes from the police, the lawyer for the woman told the newspaper.
The case is being updated.
