A case of infection on the Royal Caribbean ship “Quantum of the Seas” has put an end to the ship’s latest “cruise to nowhere”: trips of three or four nights at sea without landing.

These cruises began last week in an attempt to revitalize the tourism industry during the crown crisis.

According to The Straits Times, an 83-year-old passenger from Singapore was found infected.

The passenger visited the ship’s health center with diarrhea and was tested for Covid-19.

The ship, with 1,680 passengers and a crew of 1,148, returned to Singapore at 8 o’clock on Wednesday morning, on the third day of what should have been a four-day cruise, writes The Straits Times.

Until further notice, passengers have been told to stay in the cabins until further notice.

All who have had close contact with the infected passenger are in isolation, but all must have tested negative on corona tests.

Annie Chang from the Singapore Tourism Board says all the passengers tested negative before the ship embarked on the cruise.

“All leisure activities on board were stopped immediately and passengers were asked to stay in their cabins,” Chang said according to Channel News Asia (CNA).

Carried to bed

The Straits Times has spoken with passenger Ronald Tam (43), who is on the ship with his wife and three children between the ages of two and eight.

He says he was literally put to bed by the captain’s message at 2:45, about an expedited return to Singapore.

“We have been told to stay in the rooms until we receive further instructions,” he told The Straits Times.
