Outside the Champions League

  • RB Leipzig – Manchester United 3-2 (2-0)

It was mentioned beforehand as the biggest game of the season for Ole Gunnar Solskjær and Manchester United. Germany’s Leipzig and United tied in the Champions League group before the decisive match. Avoiding losses would keep United going.

It started sadly for the Red Devils, who finished two goals behind before the break. Leipzig rose to 3-0 before Manchester United began the recovery.

But it was a little late. Manchester United is out of the Champions League.

– We started the game too late. The first 20 minutes weren’t good enough. We gave everything in the second part, but we created too big a task. We feel more comfortable, but there is no excuse for this, Harry Maguire tells British BT Sport.

According to Sky Sports, Solskjær says that “we were unlucky towards the end of the match.”

– We weren’t good enough. In a difficult group we started well, but the great turning point was the defeat against Istanbul. There we lost points that we should have had, says Solskjær.

The match got off to the worst possible start for Solskjær’s men. After just two minutes, Leipzig gave the Red Devils a really shocking start when they took the lead.

It was Captain Angelino who hit the 16-meter mark, sending the Germans in the lead.

But United failed to shake off the start of the clash, and only ten minutes later they ended up in even bigger trouble. This time it was a stress-free Amadou Haidara who was able to open the ball into the goal from the side.

The Red Devils could barely borrow the ball for the first 20 minutes and struggled terribly defensively. Emil Forsberg was about to suffer a few minutes later.

Leipzig also had the ball at the net for the third time, but the goal was disallowed. Good luck for United, but they had a great job to do in the second half.

United had much more draw and were more involved in the match after the break, and suddenly a goal was in the air. United got a free kick from 25 meters, which Bruno Fernandes sent into the area. Harry Maguire was a little late to get the ball into the goal.

Solskjær also brought in Paul Pogba, who has been attacking for the past 24 hours, after his agent made some alarming statements that the superstar will end up at United. Bruno Fernandes hit a free kick off the post twenty minutes before the end, then took another hit to the face immediately. On one occasion Leipzig arrived, after another bad defensive play by United in which they let the ball bounce across the field, Justin Kluivert finished in goal.
Suddenly there was a total crisis, and United had to score three goals in 20 minutes to save their place in soccer’s most prestigious tournament.

But United kept pushing, creating several great chances. The problem was getting the ball into the goal. But when Mason Greenwood was fouled on the Leipzig 16 meters a quarter of an hour before the end, the opportunity was there. Bruno Fernandes was confident from the penalty spot, putting in reduction for the red shirts. And just a few minutes later United scored again. On this occasion it was the aforementioned Pogba who rose higher in the field, and blocked in the direction of the goal. The ball went through a Leipzig player and into the goal, but it was still a further reduction. Three minutes into extra time, Leipzig were putting the ball into their own net, which could have been fatal for Leipzig, who would have come out to draw. But it was a little too much, a little too late for United. Ole Gunnar Solskjær and the Red Devils must be content with playing the Europa League. Alexander Sørloth was never allowed onto the field, but he is in the Champions League. Download our sports app
