Taiwan is one of the countries in the world that has managed to keep the covid-19 infection away from its almost 24 million inhabitants, according to Worldometers. Only seven people have died from the virus and fewer than 1,000 people have been infected, according to the survey.

Strict quarantine rules may be one of the reasons. A Filipino worker has now been fined for violating the country’s quarantine rules for eight seconds, CNN writes.
The man was installed in one of the country’s quarantine hotels in the city of Kaohsiung, and left his room and went out into the hall for a few seconds, the country’s Health Ministry reports to the country’s news agency CNA.

The man went out into the hallway and left something outside the door of another room, to a friend who was also in quarantine, according to the Taiwan Ministry of Health. This was filmed and detected through the hotel’s surveillance camera.
The man was fined 100,000 Taiwanese dollars, more than 30,000 Norwegian crowns.

Since the coronavirus spread around the world, Taiwan has managed to keep the number of infected people to a record low, with just 716 infected people out of nearly 24 million residents.

Taiwan has not closed society or had drastic restrictions on people’s freedom of movement. Massive testing and rapid infection tracking are reported to be one reason for this, according to CNN.
Taiwan takes COVID-19 seriously, and in the city of Kaohsiung alone there are 56 hotels where people are quarantined. When people are quarantined, they are not allowed to move outdoors. One or out of the quarantine hotel room, as the Filipino guest worker may have experienced.
Yesterday, 3859 people were quarantined here. Many of them are fishermen.
