Three gold-seeking Vålerenga players are due to be quarantined after an outbreak in the Danish national team, but this weekend’s final round in Toppserien will not be postponed.
The current three players are Rikke Madsen, Stine Pedersen and Janni Thomsen. On Tuesday night, the Danish national team will play against Italy.
– We have reached an agreement with Vålerenga so that the matches go according to plan. It’s a terrible shame for Vålerenga not to have a full stable in the golden match, but the alternative scenarios can be even worse, general manager Hege Jørgensen at Toppfotball Kvinner tells VG.
In recent days there have been meetings with all the clubs and several meetings with Vålerenga to find the best solution.
– There has been uncertainty related to the close contact Vålerenga players have had with infected players. Today there were also three new cases in the Danish national team and it has been decided that the players will be in quarantine for ten days from yesterday. They are not available for Sunday’s game, says Jørgensen.
– I have to say that I have a lot of respect for the crown, the infection control rules and the current regulations, says the sports manager in Vålerenga, Eli Landsem, and it is clear that they respect the decision to play as planned.
– Of course you want to have the best players, but it has been a special year. We have to make the most of it. We have good substitutes, but it’s a shame that under these conditions a league championship is decided, Landsem believes.

In addition to the last round of the series in Toppserien, the cup final is also on December 13 between Vålerenga and LSK Women. Vålerenga will also play Brøndby in the Champions League on December 10 and 16.
– The cup does not hang as high this year as usual. In that sense, we could have moved on and played next weekend, but there are a lot of teams sending their players home for the Christmas holidays after this weekend’s game, so it wouldn’t have been fair play either.
Vålerenga leads the series with a better goal difference than Rosenborg and has a point at Avaldsnes.
