The government’s agreement with Vedum

– Even when the Center Party (Sp) and Vedum exploit the oil fund, they cannot keep their promises.

It’s Linda Hofstad Helleland’s ruthless verdict on Sp, who last week presented her alternative to the state budget.

By increasing the crown crisis package for the government by NOK 8 billion, Sp, like the government, is using a record amount of oil crowns in its budget for next year.

But this is not primarily why the district minister criticizes the leader of the Center Party.

Failed electoral promises

Helleland believes the Center Party is revealing itself by failing to set aside enough money to deliver on its most important promises: reversing regional reform, building more sheriff’s offices and ensuring food preparation and the Northern Norway line.

– They have set aside zero crowns to reverse the regional reform, even though Vedum has promised to reverse Viken and Troms and Finnmark. They have set aside just $ 30 million to reopen the sheriff’s office, which is estimated to cost between $ 1.4 and $ 4 billion. There are public toilets that cost more than what Sp has reserved for its biggest electoral promise, Helleland says.

She believes the same applies to transportation.

-There is not a single crown for the northern Norwegian line and there are no funds for various exits on the coastal route, despite the fact that the Sp has put forward its own proposal, supported and voted for other proposals that more ships should be deployed .

– Wait more

According to Helleland, this shows that there has only been rhetoric from Vedum.

– It’s the easiest job in the world to be an opposition politician, but actually I expected a little more sense of responsibility from someone who can become Norway’s next prime minister, says Helleland, who asks how he will fare after the elections.

– They can’t even fulfill their own policy on their own budget, how will it go after negotiations with the Labor Party, SV, MDG and Rødt? Vedum can easily cancel his election promises immediately.

– Failures in the goal

It is Sp’s fiscal policy spokesperson, Sigbjørn Gjelsvik, who is tasked with responding to criticism from the government. He responds with the same cruelty.

– Criticisms from conservatives completely fail. All the cases Helleland points to are cases where conservatives don’t want to spend a penny on themselves. Clearly, it is too expensive for the Conservative-calculating Party to develop all of Norway and prepare for new crises, says Gjelsvik, who describes the minister’s criticism as “nonsense”.

He kills his cost estimate by rebuilding the sheriff’s offices and notes that they will strengthen the police and tax authorities by 500 million crowns next year. In addition, he notes that a new majority is needed in the Storting before the regional reform can be reversed.

-I don’t have figures on how many times I’ve heard Helleland mention these public toilets in the last few days. I think it’s a bit sad that members of the government in a situation where companies are on the brink of bankruptcy and people are living in insecurity to lose their jobs, choose to spend time on such nonsense, he says.
