The friendship between “Farmen” contestants Thor Haavik (26) and Raymond Røskeland (36) has continued even after the recording; now the newly graduated priest will baptize Raymond’s two-year-old son.

This week is the last week of “The Farm.” Of the two friends, only Haavik is left on the farm, but Thor Haavik and Raymond Røskeland have kept in touch since filming ended earlier this summer.

It was Røskeland himself who suggested this. Her second child has been baptized, but things have always gotten in the way that have delayed the child’s baptism.

– Covid-19 came just as we were planning a date this spring, but then I spoke to Thor when we were at “The Farm” and told him that we have never been allowed to do this here. Then I asked Thor if there was a possibility that I could baptize my youngest son, and he would like that very much, says Røskeland.

Thor Haavik was happy and grateful that he asked.

– It was a very nice statement of confidence. Unbelievably nice, says Haavik.

He admits that Raymond is quite different from him, but those things only make the priest feel more curious.

– You try to enjoy all the people you meet, take an interest in them. I find it very rewarding and enjoyable. It’s always exciting to meet people who are different from you and find out if you can learn something from them, says Thor Haavik.

But covid-19 still sticks to the wheels for the date of the baptism. Actually, the baptism in the Salhus church should have been on November 22, but that ended local infection control rules for Bergen.

So everything was planned, with the baptism and Thor as priest, but then he calls and says we can’t have more than 20 pieces present. And when we started to have that, with four sponsors and I have three sisters, there were too many in the immediate family for everyone to come, says Røskeland.

Then December 13 was mentioned as an opportunity, but now it will be in January.

– What do you think Thor wants to baptize your son?

– Absolutely fantastic and the only thing correct. That the person who baptizes is someone with whom I have such a close connection and that I trust so much, I think it is absolutely fantastic and I think it will be much easier for all of us to contact a priest that we know if we should ask or follow up on something, says Røskeland.

He has a son with his girlfriend Sidney Lunde. Also, they have one child each from previous relationships.

This is not the first “Farmen” related baptism, as “Farme” contestant Kjetil Kirk (27) was also christened by Thor Haavik during filming this summer.

For Raymond Røskeland, a baptism means more after a tragic event in a close family a few years ago. In one of the first episodes of “Farmen”, he was blessed by Thor Haavik, which made Raymond cry, because he felt the saddest thing he has ever experienced.

– The last time I experienced a blessing, or someone was blessed, was during an emergency baptism of a nephew of mine who is sadly no longer with us. They are some of the saddest things I have ever experienced. I drove nonstop from Sweden to achieve that emergency baptism. He was only a few days old. I have an alarm clock there, how unfair everything can be, says Raymond.

– That was the death I was thinking about when Thor blessed me.
