Magnus Carlsen and Wesley So won two games each on the final day of the Champions Chess Tour, and the Norwegian world champion can celebrate his 30th birthday on Monday with another win in 2020.
They both won their games with white pieces. Carlsen has played from a secret place abroad, apparently a warm place.
The decision falls on Monday. If they are still level after four new rapid chess games, the decision will fall with blitzkrieg, possibly Armageddon.
– I think Magnus is not in his best shape right now, and that gives me a chance, Wesley So said on the official broadcast.
– Magnus made a mistake that he normally never makes, So continued in a TV 2 interview – and stated that Carlsen made two big mistakes.
It was a dramatic final first day where Carlsen won first with white, then So won with white and then Carlsen won again with white.
This meant that Magnus Carlsen could settle for a draw in Game 4 to win the first day.

But Carlsen made a mistake that gave Wesley So an uncompensated advantage.

Wesley So was the first to win the game, but he made a mistake and was eventually pushed by Carlsen. But then the Norwegian and the American “bowed” to win the match.
– This is amazing, Anish Giri said on the official broadcast.
– Even the best chess player in the world can make a mistake, Hans Olav Lahlum stated dryly in the TV 2 studio.
Carlsen was furious with himself afterwards. The Philippine-born American, on the other hand, smiled widely.
