Pernille Rygg (57) was so tired and dejected from the stress surrounding the health of Christine Koht (53) that she became seriously ill herself.
Author Pernille Rygg has stood by her side through the difficult years. In an open interview with Psykisk Helse magazine, Rygg talks about how life as a family member helped take a heavy toll on his health.
It was in December of last year that Rygg herself was admitted, at the same time that his wife received intensive treatment for cancer. Rygg became seriously ill during a visit to Koht’s hospital.
Rygg tells the magazine that an infection turned into blood poisoning and then a violent immune reaction with tiny blood clots everywhere.

Rygg agrees that VG mentions the interview.
Koht, who for the past few years has communicated with the outside world primarily through Facebook posts and videos, inaugurated his many followers on the dramatic situation surrounding his wife and how eager he was to lose Pernille.
– Pernille was going to sleep with me for the first time. I lay down, stroked her back and prayed to God: “Please don’t let Pernille get sick.” Then she got very sick, Koht told VG when she was named “Name of the Year” last year.
Rygg herself hasn’t embroidered her own awkward medical history in public until now she takes off her veil. Also about all the difficult years before Koht got cancer and struggled with completely different things.
In the magazine interview, Rygg recounts how lonely she felt protecting her boyfriend during the years of drug addiction, and the time before Koht was diagnosed with bipolarity.
VG +: When Christine Koht was on stage, the audience had no idea that she was morbidly manic and was often addicted to pills and cocaine.
Koht himself has discussed all this in detail in the new book “Kohts Bok”.
Back also contributes to the confidence in the book about the extremely difficult phases during your relationship.

The couple have been together for 30 years, since Koht was in her early 20s. In 2013, they got married, after being lovers for 23 years.
Until Koht was admitted to drug rehab, Rygg did his best to keep problems hidden from the outside world, including those closest to her.
Rygg tells Psykisk Helse that she felt a responsibility and that she is also an introvert who doesn’t say much about her own feelings.
– The main thing is that he was so tired. One of the things that made my self esteem very low was that this should not have happened to a person who is so close to me. “I should have made sure it wasn’t,” Rygg tells the magazine.
He goes on to say that he felt self-loathing and shame for not making sure things weren’t less full of conflict.

Explosive settlement
Also in the book is this topic, how Rygg held the problems within the four walls and how he finally exploded during a session organized by the detox program, where family members would speak in plenary.
That’s when it all came to the surface, everything that was painful and difficult that Koht exposed his wife to when she was at her worst, and that Koht himself has been ruthlessly honest about in the book.
Rygg delivered a thunderous speech he had written.
«You took my heart and wiped your ass with it!Rygg yelled at his girlfriend, in front of everyone.
For VG, Rygg has previously described this as a kind of cleaning.
– I didn’t know it could be that effective. For me, it was a miracle to finish everything once and for all.
– I scolded her and I will never do it again. It is wonderful.
The trials the couple have faced in recent years in the form of Koht’s cancer have been of another kind. The popular comedian and host was diagnosed with cancer of the mole on the mucous membranes in November 2018.
