Briefly about the case

  • On Saturday, Erling Braut Haaland was named the best young player in Europe in 2020 by the Italian newspaper Tuttosport.
  • In 2020, he has scored 37 goals in 35 games.
  • On Tuesday night, Haaland’s Borussia Dortmund will play Belgian Brugge in the Champions League.

When the Norwegian leaders Borussia Dortmund take on Brugge in the Champions League on Tuesday night, chances are high for more goals.

After four hits at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin on Saturday night, the 20-year-old is the most frequently scored top-level attacker in the 2020 calendar year.

Aftenposten has surpassed all the goals of the biggest attacking stars in the five major European leagues from January 1 to November 22.

Forget Robert Lewandowski, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappé and Neymar. Erling Braut Haaland is the most efficient of all (see own data).

Since jærbuen debuted with three goals for Borussia Dortmund on January 18, he has scored goals.

The 20-year-old has played 35 games for club teams and national teams in all tournaments. 37 goals give an average of 1.06 in each game.

He is much better than Robert Lewandowski of Bayern Munich, considered by many to be the best and most complete striker in the world.

Just look here:

Here is the number of matches, goals and scorers of the biggest stars in the five major leagues (England, Germany, Spain, Italy and France) in calendar year 2020. Official matches in all club tournaments and national teams are included .

1: Erling Braut Haaland, Borussia Dortmund: 35 games – 37 goals. Average: 1.06

2: Robert Lewandowski, Bayern Munich: 38 games – 40 goals. Average: 1.05

3: Cristiano Ronaldo, Juventus: 37 games – 36 goals. Average: 0.97

4: Romelu Lukaku, Inter: 43 games – 35 goals. Average: 0.81

5: Ciro Immobile, Juventus: 33 games – 25 goals. Average: 0.76

6: Kylian Mbappé, PSG: 32 games – 24 goals. Average: 0.75

7: Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Milan: 30 games – 22 goals. Average: 0.73

8: Harry Kane, Tottenham: 31 games – 20 goals. Average: 0.65

9: Neymar, PSG: 24 games – 15 goals. Average: 0.63

10: Luis Suárez, Atlético Madrid: 27 games – 17 goals. Average: 0.63

Longest ‘goal drought’: three games

Other things we can read from the numbers:

  • Haaland’s longest goal drought comes in three games at the end of the month from February to March. Lewandowski has had two periods in three games without a goal.
  • Three times Haaland has scored three goals or more. Lewandowski has done exactly the same, while this year’s third-most effective Cristiano Ronaldo has scored more than twice just once.
  • Only one of Haaland’s 37 goals has been awarded a penalty. In comparison, Messi is 9 of 23, Lewandowski 7 of 40 and Cristiano Ronaldo 13 of 36 times on penalties.

Haaland tops that stat too, most goals in open play.

With such figures, it is quite understandable that the Italian daily Tuttosport in Saturday’s newspaper named Haaland “Golden Boy”, the young player of the year in the world.

Stable for 11 months

So we can wonder when the Rogaland phenomenon will end.

You are young and are guaranteed to experience heavier periods. There are many examples of young guys who have scored a lot in a short time, then barriers and recessions have come.

But there is no indication that it will happen in the first place for the Borussia Dortmund forward.

It is remarkable how stable it is. Stability is often something that comes with routine. A world-class forward usually reaches the top at 27-29 years old.

But Haaland is already there. When he scores more than one goal on average in each game spread over 11 months, the conclusion is quite simple: he remains stable with two dashes below that answer.

Nor can you use against Haaland who is young and unknown, who thus escapes more easily.

Haaland is no longer a surprise to the best midfielders in Europe. Everybody knows who he is. The Norwegian has been thoroughly scrutinized after breaking into the first stage with eight Champions League goals for Red Bull Salzburg a year ago.

A “mental monster”

The last 11 months also show the enormous mental strength that the Norwegian has. Haaland did not allow himself to be isolated while the entire soccer world was closed during the start of the corona pandemic. He scored as soon as the game started again.

After seven troubled days with the national soccer team, including two canceled matches and disputes over the quarantine provision, he responded to the direct with four away goals against Hertha Berlin at the Olympic Stadium on Saturday night.

Then you are strong in the head.

Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has repeated that his players are “monsters of mentality”. Haaland definitely falls into the same category, he’s a mental monster.

All superlatives are out of stock. Words are hard to describe to describe the suggestion. We can only fantasize about how the story of footballer Erling Braut Haaland will end.

Nothing is given in sports. An injury can ruin everything. It is also not certain that everything will work out if he goes to an even bigger club.

But the foundation is at least adventurous.

Now the 20-year-old must pursue new goals in the Champions League. He is already up 14 of 11 games in the most generous club tournament in the world.

We remind you that Cristiano Ronaldo, almost 16 years older, is the top scorer of all time in the same tournament with 130 in 170 games.

It can be a long-term goal and terribly difficult to achieve. Because it’s all about goals for Haaland.
