“The Queen’s Gambit” has become a magnet for viewers this fall. Now streaming giant Netflix is announcing more records.
Up to 62 million households watched “The Queen’s Gambit” in the first 28 days after its release. Report Netflix Twitter Monday.
That makes the series the most-watched Netflix miniseries ever, according to the streaming service itself.
The series is about eight-year-old Beth Harmon, who is sent to an orphanage after her mother drives her to death. Harmon becomes addicted to sedatives and chess with the caretaker of the orphanage, Mr. Shaibel.
Anya Taylor-Joy is playing the chess player. She was previously known for, among other things, the television series Peaky Blinders.

The Netflix series follows her from basement chess with the caretaker to a match against Russian grandmaster Vasily Borgov. Along the way, there are many obstacles outside the chessboard.
The top ten in almost a hundred countries
According to Netflix, the book of the same name, on which the series is based, has now ended up on the New York Times bestseller list, 37 years after its first publication.
The public in various countries is clearly interested in the history of the chess player. The television series reached the top ten in 92 countries and first place in all 63 countries, Netflix writes.
Also, the keywords “how to play chess” should have had more searches than in nine years, according to Google trends calculations.
