Ståle Solbakken speaks for the first time after he was sacked on 10 October as coach of FC Copenhagen. In a longer interview with Danish TV3 +, he fired the club’s management.
– They don’t have the heart or the brain to draw the big strategic lines, he says, among other things, about the owners of FC Copenhagen, according to Ekstra Bladet.
Solbakken was fired on October 10, but declined to comment on the case – until now.
The Norwegian is cursed because the club did not kick him face to face, but over the phone. He is also bothered by the way the case has subsequently been presented, where management has expressed that cooperation between them was good.
– I couldn’t disagree more that the collaboration was good, says the former FCK coach in the interview.

– They talk a lot about FCK DNA, but no one has a clue what it is about, he says about management.
According to Solbakken, he was only in three meetings with the club bosses.
– They piss a bit about everything I’ve done. In the time after the firing, I was told about the entire organization, says Solbakken, who says the message about the firing came by phone from the club president, Bo Rygaard.
– I think that after 12 years and eight months there is the right to go face to face.

After the interview, FC Copenhagen posted a response on their website from the club’s president, Rygaard. They thank Solbakken again for his long and faithful service, but justify the dismissal with unsuccessful results.
– Nobody is above FCK as a club. FC Copenhagen is created by a great circle of people, who have FCK in their hearts. As a board, you sometimes have to make decisions with your head rather than your heart to do the right thing for the club. Responsibility for the results fell, at his own request, with Ståle as manager, tasked with being both athletic director and head coach. The board has complied with your player purchase wishes and other provisions. Therefore, there was only one place where he could be held responsible for failed results, Rygaard and the club write and continue:
– We have received praise and praise for the decision. Some have thought we waited too long, others think we should have waited longer. We continue to defend the fact that it was the right decision.
Jess Thorup has taken over coaching responsibilities at the club. FCK writes that they want to focus on giving him the support apparatus and player support on the way forward.
– Out of respect for that, and despite the fact that there are many statements in the interview with which we do not agree or do not recognize ourselves, we do not want to comment further, he says in a press release.
FC Copenhagen has not responded to VG’s inquiry.
P.S! TV3 Sport’s sporting director Kim Mikkelsen says that Ståle Solbakken has not made any demands for the interview. He wants to elaborate on his views, writes Ekstra Bladet.
