But not everyone thinks they fully deserve it. – Embarrassing, says Meghan McCain.
Governor Andrew Cuomo will be this year’s winner of the International Emmy “Founder Award.”
The Democrat receives the award for his leadership during the crown pandemic, and especially for his use of television as an information channel.
– He has used it as a channel to inform and reassure people around the world, says on the website of the international Emmy award.
From March 2 to June 19, Cuomo held daily televised briefings on the status of the crown in New York. In total, it held 111 information sessions during the period with a total of 59 million viewers, according to the International Emmy Academy.
– His orientations have worked so well for him because he has created television with characters, plots and stories with success and defeat, says the president of the international academy, Bruce L. Paisner.
But not everyone has reacted positively to the award.
– This is shameful
The Guardian writes that at the beginning of the pandemic, Cuomo received much praise for his crown guidance. He was later criticized for a particular decision that nursing homes could admit corona-infected or suspected infected patients.
This decision was made in May, but by then more than 6,000 corona-infected patients had already been admitted to nursing homes in New York. There are different opinions on whether the infection came from patients or staff, according to The Guardian.
Several critics on Twitter believe the Emmy award overlooks what they believe are problematic aspects of New York’s handling of the crown, the newspaper writes.
Among those who have reacted negatively to the awards ceremony is Meghan McCain, the daughter of the late Republican Senator John McCain:
“This is embarrassing,” he wrote on Twitter.
New York has fewer deaths and hospitalizations this spring, but the number of corona cases is on the rise, like the rest of the country, writes the Associated Press.
In 2019, Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and DB Weiss received the award. Other past winners include Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg. Usually it is people from the television industry who receive the award, but Al Gore, who was the Democratic presidential nominee in 2000, also received it.
The “Founder’s Award” will be awarded on November 23rd.
