In Georgia, more than five million votes have been counted by hand. On Friday night, the state announces that Joe Biden will retain his narrow victory.

After the first vote count, the incoming president of the United States led with about 14,000 votes over incumbent President Donald Trump in the state.

Because the margin was so small, a full recount of around five million votes was cast, by hand.

The deadline was set for early Thursday morning Norwegian time, and the night before Friday, state authorities declare that they have completed:

  • The new result shows that Joe Biden has received 12,284 more votes than Donald Trump, a slightly smaller lead than he had at the first count, writes CNN.
  • This was the distribution: Biden received 2,475,141 votes (49.5%), while Trump received 2,462,857 votes (49.3%).

PS: Because the margin between the two candidates is still below 0.5 percent, Trump, as the losing party, may request another recount. In that case, it will happen with scanner counters, writes the AP news agency.

“Georgia’s first state census confirmed that the state’s new system for counting votes correctly and accurately counted votes,” Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said in a statement to CNN.

The Unknown Power Struggle in Georgia: May determine Biden’s future

The state has not officially confirmed the result for all counties, and the Minister of Administration told local television channel WSB-TV that this will happen on Friday. So they will “no doubt” declare Biden the winner of the state and its 16 voters, he adds.

This means Joe Biden now has a total of 306 voters against Trump’s 232, writes the AP news agency, which after the poll declared Biden the state winner. You need 270 to win the election.

Georgia has not voted for a Democratic candidate since 1992. In 2016, Trump won the state with 5 percent more votes than Hillary Clinton.

– The counting process has only confirmed what we already knew: Georgia voters have chosen Joe Biden as their next president. We are grateful to the electoral authorities, volunteers and staff, says Kaclyn Rothenberg on Biden’s campaign to CNN.

Despite the fact that the result itself has not changed, several irregularities have been discovered during the review. These are the culprits that Biden’s lead is less than it was at the first count.
