Harald Sande was on a video conference with his colleagues at Malvik’s home when he saw the train glide towards him. – Could have been a tragedy.
– It was quite unexpected, Harald Sande tells VG.
He was sitting in his home office at his Malvik home in Trøndelag on Thursday morning when he suddenly had an unexpected lunch break.
Sande got in the middle of the video conference with two colleagues and looked out the window.
– Luckily the curtains were up. Then I saw a truck coming down the slippery road. Then I see it start to glow against the house where I am sitting.
It was NRK who first covered the case.
– I was running
Sande quickly realized that the caravan was going to crash into the house.
– I thought I was going to go through the wall, and if I didn’t escape, they would take me. Then it was just a matter of running to the opposite end of the house.
The train collided with the side of the wall of the house and the entire side of the train cracked. The house escaped with broken tiles and gutters.
Again, amazed colleagues stood on the other side of the screen.
– They probably thought I suddenly had to go to the bathroom or something. So when I came back I turned the camera over and showed what had happened. Then we had the next exit meeting, they got it, says Sande.
Coincidentally, no one was injured
He says that the ground outside the house is very steep, and that with the first snow today it was slippery.
– Getting downhill on the line here is risky, because today it was very slippery.
Girlfriend was also at home during the incident and heard a thud from the basement. The children were in kindergarten and school.
– It’s his way to school. If it had been at another time, it could have been a tragedy. It’s a coincidence that no one was hurt, says Sande.
The trailer driver is a man in his 60s who was driving for a Norwegian company, Trøndelag police report.
– It was winter, but it was mild and the house is sloping. A case was opened and the driver’s license was confiscated, says operations manager Trond Volden.
– There is no order for a chain, but it is clear that you have to make sure that the vehicle is well-shod enough according to the driving conditions. Many places in Trøndelag are very slippery today.
