On November 1, Anders Opedal took over as Equinor’s new CEO. Changes are now being made to both the group structure and the management team.

– Equinor is developing as a broad energy company. We are now making changes to strengthen the implementation of our strategy of safe operation, creation of high value and low carbon emissions, Opedal says in a statement.

– The changes will contribute to greater value creation from our world-class oil and gas projects, profitable growth in renewable energy and the development of low-carbon solutions, it continues.

The new group structure will consist of six business areas and five units at the center of the group, Equinor says. The new structure is scheduled to go into effect on June 1.

Collect international exploration and production

Then Exploration and Production Norway (EPN) and Exploration and Production International (EPI) will be established as new business areas. The EPI will include the current International Development and Production, Brazil and the global strategy and business development.

The company states that these business areas will continue with competitive oil and gas exploration and production.

Kjetil Hove will assume the leadership of EPN. Hove comes from the position of director of fields in the last phase, a position he has held since January of this year. EPI will be led by Al Cook, who in recent years has been Executive Vice President of Global Strategy and Business Development.

“Two consolidated business areas for oil and gas will contribute to more focused efforts to achieve higher value creation and lower emissions.

Torgrim Reitan, who has led development and production internationally, disappears from the group’s leadership and takes a new position in the company. He has been part of the group’s management since 2011, and has previously been CFO, among other things.

Starting in the New Year, Reitan will assume the position of director of finance and control in the Renewables business area to work for the profitable growth of renewable energies.

Technology area

Another significant change for the company is that the Technology, Digitization and Innovation (TDI) business area is established, while projects, drilling and acquisitions become a more focused business area.

“Technology, digitization and innovation are important tools for increasing safety and value creation, reducing emissions and developing low-carbon solutions,” the company writes.

Equinor believes that the pooling of these units opens up new opportunities in oil and gas, renewable energy and low-carbon solutions.

The new business area will be led by the American Carri Lockhart. Until now, she has been a portfolio director and operating partner in Development and production internationally. Previously, she was the director of the company’s offshore operations in the United States.

The new management team

Several organizational replacements have been announced previously at the company, which coupled with the change in the group structure means that the management team will now be new.

– The change in group management provides a good combination of continuity and renewal, diversity and experience from all of Equinor and from the industry in general. With this new team and a very competent organization, we are ready to develop Equinor even further together, Opedal says.

In addition to the changes within the business areas, Jannik Lindbæk will be the new communications director. He started with the company in 2010 and comes from the position of director of public relations and contact with the Norwegian government.
