Two minutes into extra time, in a 1-0 position against Avaldsnes, the home team’s goalkeeper picked up the ball on his own 16 meters. Victoria Esson held the ball in her hands for 13 seconds before the referee blew the whistle. The referee showed Esson the yellow card after a very dangerous tackle from behind.

– According to the rule book, there will be an indirect free kick, but the referee chooses to drop it for one reason or another. We are deprived of a good chance to score goals, so it was a bit silly, Arna-Bjørnar’s coach Remi Natvik tells NRK.

Judge Veronika Fjeldvær admits that she misjudged in that situation.

– I spoke to Arna-Bjørnar’s coach and said it was a wrong decision and the match should have been resumed with an indirect free kick.

It can be revenge

Natvik has lodged a protest with the Norwegian Football Association.

– It is a direct violation of the rules and so it is a good basis to protest. So we hope to hear the protest.

The competition director of the Norwegian Football Association says that the referee and the section committee will make a decision in the coming days.

– From what I understand, it is protested on a basis that says it is an incorrect application of the rules, and then, in the worst case, it can mean a new match, that is, a revenge. It is the Sentencing and Sanctions Committee that must decide. They will likely consider when this happened and its severity, says Fisketjønn.

– As is the regulation today, or it is a new party or nothing.

NRK football expert Carl-Erik Torp believes it is right for the Bergen team to file a protest, regardless of the outcome.

– It is a serious mistake that the judges mishandle and then Arna-Bjørnar has the right to lodge a protest. If they don’t come, they focus on quality and unusual mistakes are made.

– Very bad level

The Arna-Bjørnar coach believes that mistakes come because the referees lack experience of a high enough level

– You need some experience to be good enough to level up. The same goes for our players who are young, you can’t let them play every game at the highest level.

– Do most of the judges have enough experience at this time?

– In my opinion, no, says Natvik.

Arna-Bjørnar’s coach is supported by the NRK football expert.

– Overall, it’s probably a very bad level. I think there are too many situations that are considered wrong. You have a way to go to take the referee level to a higher level. The level is probably a little bad, but you have to lift all the product at the same time and it is not limited to the judges, says Torp.
