Canadian-American presenter Alex Trebek has died at age 80. This is confirmed by the show “Jeopardy!”, Which Trebek has run since 1984, on NBC on Twitter.
“It is with great sadness that we must announce that Alex Trebek fell asleep peacefully in his own home this morning, surrounded by family and friends,” the statement said.

The 80-year-old man had pancreatic cancer and is said to have had problems for a long time. He announced the diagnosis in March of last year. He said at the time that his prognosis was bad, but that he still hoped to be able to work as long as possible.
He must have battled depression for the past year, because the chemotherapy treatments he underwent were so strong. However, he wanted to continue to the end, because he did not want to leave his wife.
However, he was of the opinion that he was not afraid of dying.
– I’m not afraid to die. I have lived a good life, a full life, and I am beginning to approach the end of that life … If that happens, why should I have been afraid of it ?, he told CTV.

For his role as a host, he was nominated for 31 Daytime Emmy Awards and won seven times. He is also the one that in the world has been the presenter of most of the episodes of the game show, a title he received in 2014 after appearing in a total of 6,829 episodes of the popular show.
He has also starred in several films, including “Rain Man” and “Charlie’s Angels.” He liked to play himself, because many of the movies had somehow included the game show in the script.
Trebek leaves behind three children and his wife Jean, whom he married in 1990.
