Thor: – A crisis in life.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian church, but it was not until later in life that the “Farm” priest Thor Haavik (26) really had to step toward faith. More on that later.

In recent weeks, viewers have witnessed the young man from Bergen using his place on the farm to spread the so-called Christian message, something that he told Se og Hør before entering the farm that he had to be careful .

– There are some challenges that I face now. I put myself in a situation where I run the risk of misleading myself and damaging the Christian message, because I truly believe that it can be done. I hope not, he explained, and continued:

– I am clearly committed to the faith and I have a winning character. I think it is important to be true and it is very important to have social antennas. I have to interpret the signals in people.

And so far it may appear that it has. In addition to the fact that participant Kjetil Kirk wanted Haavik to baptize him, the 26-year-old also received a goodnight blessing on the edge of the bed.

– He was a target for bullies.

– It meant something to the group

When See and Hear now talks to him, once the recording is over, Haavik says he is overwhelmed by the result.

– I had to pinch my arm because of how beautiful it was, and it is strong to see it on television, he admits.

As is well known, Haavik was aware that religion has been the breeding ground for heated discussions about “The Farm” in the past, and is grateful for the way it has been received.

– It was less challenging than I thought. I got a role that made me mean something to the group, which made everyday life have meaning and made me thrive very well. I think it would have been more difficult if it had been different, he says.

Well, back home in 2020, the 26-year-old can say that the transition back to everyday life was difficult and that he is happy that the participants were offered a psychologist.

– I decided not to check social media until I had spoken with the psychologist, and then she recommended two quiet weeks before starting every day again.

And that Haavik chose a soft start was probably right. He says the inbox is full of messages from eager viewers and the support has been enormous. Some courtship letters have also infiltrated the messages.

– There have been some violent courtship letters about weddings, but mostly there are nice date requests for good coffee and a chat, he notes.

According to the Bergen man, some of the suitors write what they think is in a courtship letter, that is, whether to get married, but obviously that’s not the way to go to win the 26-year-old’s heart.

– I think it will be a bit violent, it must happen naturally, he thinks.

Aside from those who want to marry him, most are impressed with the way he stays in the faith and think that he is a good role model.

However, Haavik can reveal that in a future girlfriend he is looking for someone who truly cares about the people around him, has a motherly heart and is interested in others.

– It is very important, and then you fall in love with the look and the personality. There must be someone you fall in love with who I like to have the same interests. Since faith is so great in my life, I hope we can share it, he reveals.

But we go back nine years before Haavik takes the right step toward the Christian faith. As mentioned in the introduction, he is baptized and confirmed, but only when he was 17 did he decide to take another path.

– It was a crisis in life. A difficult moment where he had bet on football. It was the greatest thing in my life, and like many other young people, I dreamed of becoming a professional and being able to earn a living with sport, he says, and continues:

– I bet, and that was the meaning of life there and then.

But in the first grade of high school it went wrong. Haavik suffered a nasty injury to both knees and was forced to stop.

– It was a really bad moment in life where I started to think more about what the meaning of life was. One day I decided to pray in my room, even though I had no Christian friends or Christian fellowship at the time. But I had a positive confirmation period a couple of years before, remember.

Haavik had learned to fold his hands and was sorry to have gone his own way. If God exists, you should dedicate your life to Him and go one hundred percent down that path.

– It is difficult to explain, but as I prayed it was as if an unimaginable love and peace passed through me. I cried and cried and they really set me on fire, he says.

The injury that had forced the young footballer to put his career off the shelf was a combination of a growth injury and a strain injury.

– Had two holes or two holes in both knees. Sometimes I think that something bad can turn into something good, but not always. Fortunately, it was like that for me.

After this experience, he got in touch with a youth pastor and began attending church. Only several years later did he decide to study theology to become a priest.

– I worked for a long time in a store and I loved it because I met so many people. I find people exciting and I enjoyed the times when I had the opportunity to speak a little more deeply with some, but it didn’t happen that often.

– So I thought that as a priest you receive it every day. You get to meet people and talk about faith, but most of all a setting where I can testify about faith and help shape the lives of others, she continues, adding that she also considered the teaching profession for a long time.

– You are very open about faith and what you stand for, but have you noticed anything about the infamous pressure to drink?

– Personally, I have opted for abstinence and always have been. When I played football, even though I gave up at 17, there were sporting reasons why I didn’t drink, he explains, continuing:

– Both my parents have also taken that position, so for me it was easy. And since I’m an older brother, it’s important to try to lead by example.

Haavik says they have had some substance abuse problems in the family, not wanting to go too far, but that this has affected him and his parents in the decision not to drink.

– There are an incredible amount of people having fun and having a great time, but then sadly there are many who struggle with it. It is probably also a bit in solidarity that I choose to abstain, although I am sure I will enjoy the wine in heaven, he continues.

– Most Christians around the world are moderators, who do not drink syrup, but rather have a little fun. It’s probably more unusual for a Christian to abstain, although I think it’s good to be that way, he notes.
