Everton 1-3 Manchester United

Former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has been mentioned frequently in the English media as the replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjærs in the last week.

The Norwegian’s weak results this season have not gone unnoticed. The embarrassing home loss to Arsenal last weekend was followed by another loss in the Champions League on weekdays.

Before Saturday’s game against Everton, the traditional club dropped to 15th place. It’s unheard of for a club of this size.

Now, however, Solskjær can get a breather again, for now. United got off to a nightmare start, but turned the game around and ultimately won 3-1.

– Once again, Ole Gunnar Solskjær fights back when the pressure is greatest, TV 2 commentator Øyvind Alsaker said after the match.

Solskjær was furious after the match

Despite a very solid victory, there was only one thing Solskjær was concerned about after the match. He expressed great dissatisfaction with the match program.

In the last week, United played on Sunday (at home against Arsenal), on Wednesday (away against Turkish Başakşehir) and on Saturday morning (away against Everton).

– We were doomed to fail. We have been to Turkey, we have already played many games this season. It is a scandal. I can’t praise the guys enough. That’s all I want to talk about today, Solskjær said in an interview that was shown on TV 2.

– How can you prepare for us on Saturday morning after a Champions League game in Turkey on Wednesday? Who is responsible? I’ve had enough. You have to understand how mentally and physically demanding this is for players in the midst of a pandemic. It’s a joke, the Norwegian enraged.

Among other things, Solskjær was very unhappy that Luke Shaw had to leave the field due to injury.

The star signing of Solskjærs is celebrated

Bruno Fernandes became the great player of the match. The Portuguese scored two and attended the third of the United day.

The 26-year-old has been doing great since Solskjær picked him up in January. Now he stands with a total of 18 goals for the club.

– His production since he arrived at United is completely ill, says Erik Thorstvedt in the TV 2 studio.

– He has been involved in so many passing and scoring. Today he stood out in a very extreme way, added the former national team goalkeeper.

Fernandes was naturally happy after the 3-1 win.

– It was a great end to the game. We know what we had to do and we played well, he tells BT Sports.

Seven magic minutes

Initially, Solskjær’s men were the leading team in the afternoon sun in Liverpool.

Anthony Martial checked in behind the Everton defense after the fourth. The Frenchman got the shot, but the attempt went aside for the goal.

Then in 13 minutes, the highlights came like pearls on a string:

  • 19 minutes: Coach Bernhard got a room in the corner of the penalty area. A quick turn to the right, followed by a sensitive finish in the near corner – and vips – 1-0 at Everton.
  • 25 minutes: Luke Shaw unleashed a deflected effort from the right that the visiting goalkeeper did well to deflect the ball. The header was well placed and removable for Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. 1–1.
  • 28 minutes: Almost immediately after the goal, Lucas Digne went free down the left wing. The Everton player closed his eyes and thundered. The shot narrowed on metal.
  • 32 minutes: Then Solskjær’s men turned the game around in a few minutes. Fernandes hit a high ball towards Marcus Rashford, and suddenly the ball went into the goal. In the repetitions it was seen that Rashford was not close to the ball, so the Portuguese was able to encourage the second goal of the day.

Get on the table

The second half was not as rich as the first 45 minutes.

Everton fans must have shoved afternoon coffee down their throats when Pickford was in the generous corner after 60 minutes. The goalkeeper missed the ball in the area, but a pressed Harry Maguire finished off the empty cage.

United has one All-time opportunity with 18 minutes to go. Rashford was all alone, but this time Pickford put on a brilliant show.

In extra time, Edinson Cavani scored his first goal in a United jersey. Thus, it finished 3-1 for Solskjær and company.

The victory sends Manchester United to 13th place ahead of the remaining Premier League matches this weekend.
