WILMINGTON / WASHINGTON, DC (VG) After an intense election drama, Joe Biden delivered a clear message to the American people: I want to be a president to all of you.
VG updates the case.
– To those of you who have voted for Trump; I understand the disappointment, sometimes I have lost myself. But let’s give ourselves a chance. It’s time to put the harsh rhetoric aside, lower the heat and start seeing each other again, he said from the stage in his hometown of Wilmington in Delaware on Sunday night.
Outside of the cordoned off area, there was a full party and thousands of people had gathered to watch the next president of the United States give his victory speech.
– The people of this nation have spoken. They have given us a clear victory, a convincing victory. A victory for us, for the people. We won with the most votes in the nation’s history – 74 million votes.
Trump after Biden’s win: – I won the elections
The main message of the newly announced winner of the elections was, as he has highlighted in previous speeches, that he wants to be a unifying president. He wants to work with Republicans and wants to restore respect for what he calls decency and justice.
– I must admit that tonight I am surprised to see the joy and hope that everyone in this nation, and around the world, has for a better tomorrow.
It was a complete party when Joe Biden and Kamala Harris gave their victory speeches Sunday night. Check out the photos here:
Harris: Won’t be the last woman on top
Biden was introduced to the stage by Kamala Harris, who will be the first female vice president in United States history, and the first with a minority background.
– You elected Joe Biden as the next President of the United States!
– We, the people, have the power to build a better future. Our democracy was on the ballot in this election. America’s soul is at stake and you paved the way for a new day for America, he tells the great crowd that has turned out to celebrate victory.
– I will be the first woman in the presidential office, but I will not be the last. Every girl who looks tonight sees that this is a country of opportunity, she says from the stage in Delaware.
– The atmosphere is absolutely amazing
Outside the enclosed space where the speech took place, there was a full party. From two giant screens, the several thousand attendees were able to follow their incoming president and vice president, and there was singing, dancing and drinking before and after Biden and Kamala Harris took the stage.
Afterwards, fireworks lit up the sky, champagne bottles bounced, and infection control considerations did not appear to be a top priority.
– I live only ten minutes away and the atmosphere is absolutely incredible, says Jennifer Thies (27).
– I hope this means that the opportunities are equal for everyone. No more racism and no more hatred, continue.

Various VG gatherings among the Wimnington crowd are clearly more enthusiastic about Kamala Harris as a person than they are about incoming President Joe Biden.
– It’s exciting to know that we have Harris, a black woman. He wants minority views to reach the White House. I’m more excited about this than Biden says, says Donnie King, 38.
– It made me happy. I’m very happy!
Trump disputes the result
Despite the fact that Biden has already been congratulated by world leaders, the president of the United States, Donald Trump, continues to insist that he is the real winner of the election.
– I won the election, I got 71,000,000 legal votes, writes on Twitter after the largest US media houses announced the opponent of the winner of the election.
VG Special: Will Donald Trump become the most dangerous former president in the world?
Trump has received 70.4 million votes so far, the second-most in a U.S. presidential election. Biden has received the most votes – at least 74.5 million Americans have voted for him as their next president.
